ok so i own a 1982 honda civic 1300 non cvcc 4 speed. and the gauge cluster doesnt have an rpm gauge. was there any model like my civic that has the gauge cluster with the rpm gauge? cause i wanted to do a gauge cluster swap. but one of thing is how would i wire up the rpm part? any help would be great

if u buy a aftermarket tach u can wire it off the dizzy

You could get a cluster out of a second gen Civic 1500S, or 1300FE (there may be more cars with tachs, but those I do know have tachs). The tach in these clusters are cable driven, so in addition to the cluster itself, you'll need the tach cable. Before you do that, make sure your transmission has tach cable output (I would assume it does, and is just plugged/capped, but it wouldn't hurt to check first).

I've got a spare cluster out of a 1300FE with tach, but I don't have a spare tach cable.

 

The tachometer is driven off the end of the camshaft on the 2nd gen Civic. You will also need to source the tach drive end off of a 1500S or 1300FE, it is different than the standard empty casting on the end of the head.

Also the Civic S model has the tach in the cluster.

 

does anyone know if there are any other early to mid-80s hondas that share that tach cable? I'm in desperate need of the cable. Found a 1500S in a junkyard but some dolt undid that cable from the coupler portion, so all I have is a hollow tach cable.

 

There is a 2g at my local yard with the tach and cable. Ill go add it to my collection in the morning.
