01 crv stalls when cold
Ive got a 2001 crv that initially starts and idles fine when cold in driveway,as soon as i try to drive it,it will stall and hard starting after that. When i do get it running after letting it sit for a few minutes and then let it run for about 15 minutes and let it warm up it will run fine after that. Very hard to diagnose it only acts this way on initial startup. anyone have any ideas, its had a tune up new plugs cap rotor ign wires. thanks jp
Hello No i havent checked valve lash but will be first on my list and the headlight trick, just purchased this vehicle ,not to familiar with it. Thanks for your info,I will keep you informed. Thanks JP
Is the headlight thing a joke? I would imagine so. I am thinking main relay or maybe fuel filter? anyone think that sounds about right. I would go fuel filter first, cheap and usually neglected. BTW. my S2000 does that but it starts right back up. Trying keeping it running with your foot on the throttle.....

Thanks for your info, Checked the valve lash this morning and found exhaust valves on number 1 and 3. cylinders very tight actually held open about ten thous.Reset valves to proper clearance and that took care of the stalling problem instantly. Did compression test because missing on one cylinder, number 1 cyl 50 psi 2-175 psi 3- 145 psi 4- 175, Guess the head has to come off. Thanks again for all your help JP Happy New Year.
The headlamp circuit is hot at all times. The parking lamps and headlamps will work whether the ignition switch is on or off.
Hmm...had the same problem, valve lash took care of it. Now we have bigger issues. Dealer told me to check the valve lash, replace distributor cap, rotor, timing belt, all belts, water pump, and plugs (major tune up). I have installed everything, but am having trouble with the timing. I checked the TDC 3 times, all is well. Haven't checked the timing, to see if I fouled up the timing when I took the distributor off to replace the rotor. Still runs rough. Being a trial user on Honda Tech, I can't post anything. I can do the work if I would take the time to read all of the help I have received from searching and Haynes (not a good manual for the '01 CR-V), because it doesn't have anything specific to the DOHC and timing belt. Between busting bolts (due to over-torquing the bolts due to conversion from in-lbs to ft-lbs, I'm an idiot), stripping off bolt heads, and not having enough power for removing the pulley bolt, I think I'm holding up well!!!
