Default ek with b18c will not start

got the head milled and new headgasket due to engine overheat
tourqed it all down to oem specs
put everything back together

started first time
waited like 20mine
thermostat still aint opened up
checked the engine temp gauge
it was 3/4 hot
so above normal
the head and top radiator hose was getting really hot
so we shut it off

tried to start it again
wouldnt start
just kept cranking

what could it be?
thermostat?
waterpump?

Florida is considered good weather, and hot most of the time, and they had a 30's spell last week and the week before IIRC... swap your thermostat bro, don't take it out.

Don't remove the thermostat. It's needed to control engine temperature in any climate.

Check for spark and fuel. If you have both, compression test the cylinders.

i have no compression tester
gunna remove the thermostat and let coolant go inside the block
since the block and water pump is dry?

You need a new thermostat and to bleed the cooling system, but that's not preventing the engine from starting and running.

Is there bright white spark at all four spark plugs? Does the fuel pump prime? Any CEL codes?

top rad hose is warm

temp gauges shots up to 3/4
what could it be?

I'd replace it anyway if it's been 75k+ miles. Just to be on the safe side and have the reassurance in knowing that it's brand new. It's not expensive.
