Car died on freeway, catastrophic coolant loss... 1993 Accord
Here is what happened:
I was driving going maybe 70mph, just cruising on the freeway on the way home from work. The car then made a very short weird sound, almost like static from the radio, which is what I thought it was at the time. 30 seconds later the car just dies. I pull to the side of the road, thinking maybe I ran out of gas (gauge was somewhat low, but light wasn't even on, I figured maybe the gauge broke since the car just stopped). I heard no bangs, pops, cracks, etc when the car died.
Once I was on the side of the road, I got a gallon of gas from the 7-11 that was a 1 minute walk up the hill, when I got back to the car I decided I wanted to push it a little further onto the shoulder since the gas cap is on the drivers side and that would put me a little closer to freeway traffic than I wanted to be. As I'm pushing the car, I uncover the massive puddle of coolant that was underneath it. At that point I knew it didn't just run out of gas. I go to pull the rad cap off and oddly it was still almost full. I had only been driving for about 5 minutes and it was around 45 outside so maybe the thermostat was still closed I suppose.
I had the car towed to my parent's house, and took my mothers car since she is out of town right now, I haven't really had time to go look at it since I work everyday, but I'm thinking maybe I cracked the block? The leak was coming from the rear of the drivers side of the block. Under the Intake manifold somewhere. It was dark and I haven't had time inspect it yet.
My question to you guys is what do you think could cause this? Car dying, losing all coolant, but not oil? Car did not overheat at all. I find this odd because if I just blew a hose or something similar the car would still have driven, just overheated really quickly.
Any opinions would be very appreciated! I have about a week to get this fixed before my convenient window of having an extra daily goes away.
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Hmmm, not sure why it died on you, but I would guess two things happened. The heater hose that connects to the black metal coolant pipe that runs parallel to the block is leaking, or the oil cooler on the back of the block has a hole in the hose.
Hope it's nothing major like a cracked block.

water pump likely failed... May have jumped timing and bent valves. Its possible your motor is junk now.
Get it checked by a professional please.
