To "properly" prep a car for paint you should do the following:

Strip the interior
Remove all glass
Remove all suspension
Remove all drive train
Sand blast it - inside and out
Vacuum all the sand out
Use a paint prep to strip all the grease, dirt and oil off the bare metal

You asked...........

its gonna take alot of tape, newspaper and big rolls of those recycled paper.
some blades will come in handy.

go to the paint store and ask for "automotive painters tape"
its about a quarter inch thick.

cover everything that needs to be covered, dont miss any spots as when then painter starts shooting that paint mist can get into the smaller cracks you over looked.

use the blade to cut off any excess tape, and make make your lines more precise and sharper.

your gonna go through about 4 or 5 rolls of tape, and whole lot of old newspaper.

rule of thumb- dont rush, take your time, you dont want to have any paint where its not supposed to be.

me personally i wouldnt use newspaper because when the solvent from the paint gets on the newspaper it will cause the ink to bleed through on the your windows and whatever you have covered. so please do believe me. im a bodyman by profession
