I have been hearing a whinning noise upon startup to my accord, especially when cold. It goes away once the engine warms up. I don't know what is causing this, but has been more noticable this last month. The car has 55,000 miles, scheduled maintainence and oil changes have been done. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

 

It could be anything from the clutch (if you have a manual) to one of the pumps, etc. Things wear out and go bad, that's just the way it is. I wouldn't worry to much until something breaks... or you have noises that you just can't stand. lol. Try opening the hood when it's warming up and see if you can pinpoint the noise.

 

Noise from the power steering? The inlet elbow may need a new o-ring. You described what they do pretty good.

 

Very simple job, five minutes. All you really need is a 10mm wrench.

 

i have been doing so many of these things since its been cold on both tl's and accords they are becoming an annoyance yes replace the o ring your golden

 

Thank you for your help and replies. I will go down to the dealer in a couple of days and see if I can pickup that part up and try to fix this problem.

 

also, make sure the o ring you pick up is orange in color..this is the updated part.

 

My 03 Accord 2.4L has a whine, its not as loud when its hot, but it still whines all the time. When these orings go bad does any power steering fluid seap out? I would be shocked if its only an oring for my case, you can feel a vibration though the pump pretty good when its running.

 

This guy had the oring problem (v6 engine), and looking at the pictures, his leaked some. I changed the oring before it got bad, and started leaking.
