Probably 70k.... V-6? If the noise goes away when the vehicle warms up...probably the return hose o-ring on the power steering pump. Pt # 91345-RDA-A01. Easy fix. Other than that, like previous stated, more info needed.

My guess is that its a 4 cylinder. If so what you are hearing is the VTC actuator. It will need to be replaced. Look at Service bulletine 09-010.

V6 didn't have VTC -Variable Valve Timing Control; so, it would not be a similar issue for a V6.

you're both somewhat not completely correct. the 6 speeds had NO VCM and DID have vtec.

VTC is not exactly the same as VTEC.

On Honda’s K series (4 cylinder engines), i-VTEC system adds VTC (Variable Timing Control) to VTEC to provide continuously variable camshaft timing . It is a different concept of variable valve timing. For the K series, i-VTEC is a combination of VTEC and VTC.
i-VTEC is intelligent-VTEC.

VTC and VCM are different animals.

While the 8th generation Accord V6 (J series engine) had what Honda terms i-VTEC (intelligent-VTEC), it does not have VTC. Certain 8th generation Accord V6 had i-VTEC with VCM. VCM is Variable Cylinder Management. Depending on the driving conditions, the Accord V6 can go from 6 cylinders, to 4 or 3 cylinders for fuel economy.

My car used to make the same sound Steve@Spreen mentioned above. It was a V6 as well. The noise used to be so loud that you could hear it in the room above the garage. After 10 miles when the car warmed up the rattling was gone. The noise disappeared completely even on a cold start when the warranty recall of power steering hose was done.

you DID say the v6 had VCM... that is not entirely true.

that sound is almost like the engine is Dieseling just after start up OP... like the plugs are pre igniting the mixture. what did the dealer say?

He stated it correctly, certain V6s do have VCM, he didn't say all

OP, I believe HatchVX is correct, we have replaced a few of these here as well.

Re-read my posts, I never stated all V6 had VCM, I stated certain V6, which Steve@Spreen pointed out. You're the knucklehead here regarding my posts.

Getting a little OT here guys....MSchu, both posts never stated "all" Tech 8 said certain, and Lost Again hedged his comment stating that he was speaking from his personal experience with his Pilot.

Guys play nice, don't make me pull this car over

K3lvin_08, any progress?

So do any of you Einstein's know how to fix the actuators? How difficult is it? I don't think the OP gives a crap what V6 engines have VCM.

It may have already been posted before on this forum.

Here is Honda TSB A09-010 and a related Honda Tech2Tech video. I zipped the TSB as it wouldn't upload the latest pdf.

That looks like fun. I didn't notice any special tools, besides needing an air compressor for one part. I guess you could do it yourself.

I have been reading your comments and I think the way for to fix that is replacing the VTC actuator...
