Default Competitive 63.0mm or smaller turbo TS cars??

Just kinda wondering who all is running a turbo that is smaller then 63.0mm in true street. On the NSCRA site it says that if you turbo is smaller then 63mm your able to deduct 150lbs from your vehicles weight. I have a 6262 and want to upgrade, but im sure the turbo can be competitive with a well setup car. Competitive being 9.5's or quicker. Only car i know of that runs a 62mm that is realitively quick is CUBISH who i think has gone 9.58 or so. But being a coupe im sure its nowhere near the minimum of 2250 (with 150lbs deduction).

Also is 2400lbs TS limit with or without the driver? Because im only about 150lbs soaking wet with rocks in my pockets.

That woyld be 2400lbs with driver.

Jason Hunt has the quickest T/S car on a 62mm (borg warner turbo) 9.50@153 and that was done on the 3rd pass on the car. We are sure that the 62mm cars can go faster with time.

Yea i think CUBISH has more mph then 150 tho. I think he was right around 158 or 159, maybe even touched 160. His MPH is easily a 9.3 car with time. I think the 62mm cars have potential. I know of a car that in TS form goes 9.20s and made less then 750whp which isnt out of reach of a 62mm car by any means.

I think it's a cool idea and a way to make the cars fast and still be reliable.

I know of 4 cars running these set-ups:
Jason Hunt 9.50@154
Nos51 9.63@152
Todd Pavics 9.73@151 (best mph 155)
germanegturbo9.75@156

Todd's car is 2360# and makes a little over 700whp on the track.

We'll be back for 2011 wherever there is TS or worst case SFWD.

Thats pretty badass. I was browsing thru your quickiest times ladder thread and actually saw that Jason Hunt went 161 on a BW 62mm. Thats impressive.

I'd say its def do able with a well setup car, and a 6265. On the bright side, the weight reduction can help with drivetrain parts as well, not too too much, but everything helps.

yeah i went 9.60@160 with a bb 62/65

car was 2290 with me in it. i have no doubt that the car would go a .20-.30 on the small turbo with no problem. what was killing me was not being able to control the boost in 1st. i only had a single 44mm gate and the boost would creep really bad. i went that .60 with a horrible 330'

i think the weight helps a lot. i was running a bone stock trans with just a welded diff.. had about 15 passes on it with nothing breaking

Your car is sick, i love it, watch those videos all the time. What all did u do to get it down to 2290 with you in it? My hatch is full weight minus the back seats and the carpet and i dont see mine being sub 2400 to be honest. Its a possibility but i doubt it. Also do u know why your wg caused your boost to creep? Possibly placement of the gate itself? Mine seems to do fine on just wg pressure. It actually falls off a bit, it will spike about 14.5ish and fall to 13 gradually by redline. Not sure why it spikes so high tho, only supposed to be a .9 bar spring in it. Sometimes it will hit 15.1 or so. I suppose it could be the weather, it was fairly cold when i dyno'd.

Also im sure your not running chrome lol. Are u gonna be trying boost by gear this season? We've started on it on mine. Just gonna start out with 14 in the lower gears and gonna run about 20 in 3rd 4th and 5th. I wanna get some seat time on 14psi tho. Probably redyno around march or so on 20psi.

i've been running boost by gear with the s300. i fixed the boost creep problem with a divided manifold and twin mvs gates. the old manifold was just made shitty.. open topmount with an elbow for the wg. tried a tial 44/46, turbonetics 45mm on it and they all creeped.

i always wondered why my car is so light. i even had it down to 2230, but i added some weight up front. it has a carbon hood, trunk, kirkey seats, nothing under the dash, no sound deadning, full interior minus rear plastics, full 3.5" stainless exhaust, stock gas tank

Yea, if i upgrade ill definately be going with a 6768 unless i find a 6765 for quite a good deal on here or another forum. Have u made any passes now that the boost creep in first issue is gone? Also how much boost can u get away with in 1st without destroying the tires? Im just kinda curious.

yeah, but i didnt make a full pass. was having a problem with my shift linkage

60', 330', 1/8 all went down

went almost .3 quicker in the 1/8 than my 9.6 pass.

boost in 1st is varies.. usually i'll leave around 7-9 lbs and ramp it up. 2nd usually around 20-25. then full boost 3rd and 4th 32-36

I went 9.6@152,car weighed 2420 with me in it. 62s can def be competitive they can make over 800hp with a wicked powerband!I went ahead a switched to 6765 because my car was over weight anyways so might as well take advantage.

I have been thinking about going up to a 67mm turbo but I worry about how it will be on the street? I drive mine 2-4 times a week and like having a little fun. Has anyone done a comparison between a 62mm and a 67mm? I would love to hear some peoples experiences with this. And what 62mm turbo does BW offer? I haven't heard or seen too many of them. I thought they were stock off of a desiel for some reason...
