hi i have a 89 ef with a jdmb16a.... i live in cali and the dmv wants me to take it to a smog test only location.... i was wonderin if it would pass and if not wat would i need to do? any answers will help.

 

make sure you have everything hooked up and that you have a working catylitic converter and no ecu codes or CEL...do a complete tune up and go to any test only station...if one shop asks too many questions then just go to another less invasive one...your just getting a smog check not baring the damn thing...!!!

 

you can not smog a b16a and a smog shop will fail you all the time with that engine. If you want get a b16a1 or b16a2 and go ODBD1 or just get a LS and REF and you good to go. Like I always say look before you step because all that b16a will do for you is get you sent to the ref when a cop looks at the engine.

 

were in cali r u in sure u can get it smogd the hush hush way

 

ask around, and spend the $200 to get it "passed". gl

- Join the Military with a home of residence outside of California, keep out of state plates, build crazy turbocharged engine, enjoy smog free life in California.

wow... you cali guys, i cant believe you guys put up with this smog / engine swaping problems.... here in PA, obd 0. check engine light on and she still passes, never failed and never asked to pop a hood for a cop....

im guessing its those tree huggers or that **** nancy pelosi.

kinda feel bad for ya..... though it is a nice state for the most part, come to PA when your tired for all that smog bs...lol

I wouldn't trade living in cali just because of smog laws. Wont be long until the other 49 states adopt calis smog laws.

 

thanx to all replys and i heard the only tome they send you to ref is when the cop sees an intake and plus my car is stock on the outside so idt they would mess with me and how much do the hush hush smogs go for lol?

 

Hot smog prices vary. You could always stamp the block B16a3 (whatever del sols were) and ref it that way.

 

Florida had one for 8 years because our quality was **** poor for one year...due to a massive forest fire. Then it was repealed and we haven't looked back. It's nice to not have stagnant air that gets recharged from the Atlantic and Gulf side each day.
