Default newb build b20vtec questions

First off, i am a newb. This will be my first B-series HEAD build EVER. Please bare with me as i am still learning as i go. So any advice/criticism hate watever go ahead and do so as you please if it'll make you feel better.

My budget build will consist of:

95 GSR head
supertech valvespring
supertech retainers
brand new ITR valves
brand new OEM keepers
brand new OEM valve stem seals
blox HSL comp series camshafts

Pretty much all i know so far is knowing how to completely remove the whole valve train with proper tools and lapping the valve.

What i was going to do first, was send to my head to a local shop to get it hot tanked. When doing that, do i need to remove my rocker arms? i know i have to remove pretty much everything else but the rockers arms im a little confused about.

After i get it back all cleaned up, i was going to put the valve train back in myself. Now with using brand new oem ITR valve will i have any problems using them in my GSR head? will they fit right in with no problems after i lap the valves since they are oem?

Sorry guys if i don't make since please take into consideration that this is my FIRST build so any help guidance along the way would be gladly appreciated, thanks all!

Yes you need to remove the rockers and the lost motion assemblies. The rockers can be pulled out by removing the two locking pins on the side of the head. After you pull the pin take out the allen key plugs and pull the rod out. Make sure to keep everything in order and put it back in the same way it came out.

wait, am i suppose to lap before or after the hot tank?

Is there anything else I am missing? & with the ITR valves will they just drop in and work fine or do i need to do something special with the valves itself?

The valves will work. You should lap the valves after the hot tanking is completed. I have a valve lapping tool you could buy if you do not have one.

- Yes you can install the new ITR valves, I suggest a 3 angle or back-cut but the lapping will work fine.
- Depending on your CR and setup I would choose a better cam (like a Skunk2)
- Too late on the drinking and driving

You're not gonna be using the stock B20 pistons are you? What made you choose the HSL's?

i recommend getting a valve job done, most of these head valve seats are pitty anyways, unless a valve job was done not so long ago.

BLOX HSL's because they were.. well free 99, so mind as well use it right?

piston wise, i was going RS machine ITR style 84mm pistons with eagle rods and arp rod bolts.

good enough to NOT go boom?

For the same price you can get the 12:1's from rs machines and have a bit more potential. I would go that route, although, you will be fine either way with some proper tuning. Take some extra money and get the valve job done, I'd hate to get a motor all put together and have it smoke, or something stupid just because I didn't want to spend another $300. Should be a fun drive when it's finished. Keep us posted.

you'll be fine then. the stock b20 pistons don't have the valve relief clearance to run big cams like that

BUT...

The thing is, i wont be building the block til later down the road, probably within 6 months or more from now. I wont be taking it up that high, 7k max for now. As long as it'll run and not die out on me i wont care too much. 7k sounds pretty safe for a built head stock block. cant i just notch the valve reliefs on top of the stock pistons for now?
