Picked up a YS1 w/LSD. Got ??'s
I haven't been on here in a while because my car has been getting neglected. But I just got a new tranny because as some of you know my y1 w/ open diff broke(twice). The new one is a ys1 w/ lsd <40,000 miles. The guy bought a full swap from hmotorsonline.com and then changed his mind on the tranny(don't know what he went with).
The question I have is, if I have motor work done(bore, rods, pistons, cam) and run 16lbs of boost shooting for 375hp, will the tranny handle that. I am new to performance mods and don't want to ruin the tranny. I was only running 5lbs on the stock trans open diff(it broke) and stock internals. This is supposed to be the stock option lsd so can it handle the increase in power?

The guy I got it from(I just drove 500 miles round trip through Chicago rush hour traffic twice) said that it was taken off the engine when it came in for his full swap and he didn't use it. He signed a contract for 25% re-embursment of purchase price if anything was found to be wrong upon install so I am pretty confident it is in good shape.
I stumbled on it and now with more research I'm finding out that I probably got a steal(as long as everything works) because it sounds like these are rare.

i was actually just looking up some b16 tranny's on a local site. What is a better option, to buy the LSD tranny and risk it breaking or should i do an LSD install kit. Has anyone heard of that before?
It was a rare option, even in Japan, only 1 out of 15 models had the option, and the tranny was only in production for two years in one Inegtra model
As far as mileage goes, LOL...you and the person you bought it from have no clue as to what the actual mileage is, people just make numbers up. Unless it came out of a complete assembled front end clip, there is no way to know
If the internals are not shot, you should be able to use it with your setup. The most common problem known for this tranny is the 3rd gear syncro....it would be the 1st to show sign's of wear, hopefully yours is good

No, the old school YS1 tranny's with the rare option of LSD from Japan did not have the stamping

Yeah, you're right about that one. Is there any real way to test the flow of gears without the trans installed. I've got some time before it's going to go in. I was going to crack it open just to see the difference between it and my old tranny.

In the last pic I posted there is something on the tranny above the diff with hose connections that I don't remember being on my y1. What is it or am I crazy and just don't remember from the tear down of the old trans about a year ago.
Yeah that p/s hose thing is weird. The d-series transmissions didn't have that. I just used a vss gear off a d-series trans and it doesn't even have the p/s lines for lube. Apparently they drop right into b-series transmissions just fyi
u mean would the transmission be swappable? of course all b series except for early gen preludes are swappable with heads, transmissions etc
I was able to get some time today to crack open the trans and take a look inside. Everything appeared to be in good condition. You guys have told me the first thing to go in these trannies is the 3rd gear syncros and they look good so that makes me happy. I did find something that would have been a big issue had I not checked inside before installing the trans. There was a bolt stuck to the magnetic strip at the bottom of the trans casing. It went to the mount for the reverse shift fork linkage. There are two bolts that hold down that bracket. The one was completely out and the other had 4 turns by hand before it got tight. I'm pretty sure that had I tried to go into reverse, the bracket would have bound and not let it shift. And if the other bolt had come out at speed, that would have been a whole other problem. Luckily I checked and replaced and tightened the bolts so there shouldn't be any problems.
