Default Estimates on the Minor damage from NOPI Stunna

Got the car into a couple of body shops today. Took it to the most renown place in town and they came to $1017 and the place next door that is well regarded was at $735.

Both Agreed

Replace bumper cover
Replace bumper cover retainer clips
Paint Bumper
New Type-R sticker

Weird part is the Exspensive quote spec'd repairing the rear exstension betwen the bumper and the hatch that the key lock is on and the cheaper shop spec'd replacing it. I spoke to the more exspensive shop about it and they were addimate that repairing it would maintina a better repair for appearance due to less painting needed.

What is everyone's thoughts. Obviously they woudl make more money to sell me the part and paint the whole thing and they are considered "the" best shop in town. Woudl you have it replaced or repaired?

.....For BOTH of you!

I say take the most expensive quote to your insurance, then take the $ and go get some aftermarket upgrades.

I seemed to have gotten a little to close to thouse big *** plastic 55 gallon drum contruction cone thingies.... Just crusing along the a huge bomb.... oh my what was that.. look at the driver side mirror and its turned in (closed) and the mirror is missing .... doh.... Just some plastic off the baricade on the mirror housing, no damnage, but the mirror is MIA. D said he saw it fall on the ground when he looked back. Oh well, hopefully D can grab one localy for me.

Replace it. My car had the same damage last spring, I got the body shop to pretty much paint the back half of the car and they blended it in perfectly.

Why spend more for repair when you can get it replaced for cheaper.

Update: Just talked to his mom whose name is on the insurance and she wants to pay out of pocket. I have plenty of insurance info and don't have a problem starting with my insurance if need be but she was very nice.

We will see how it plays out. She wants to give me the average of 3 estimates even though her insurance company will pay me for any estimate I get under $1500. Right now the body shop I woudl take it to is $1017 but the amount she woudl give is ($1017 + $735)/2 = $876. Hate to be a dick but that doesn't seem coo if her insurance company would give me $1020. ThinkI might have to get re-estimates spec'ing out all new parts and paint repair to the chip on the fender.

That's a pretty interesting and aggressive strategy on her part, but not too wise. If she gives you a hard time about paying you only the average of x bids, then I'd suggest a little call to her insurance company might put things in order. Paying you a few hundred $$ more for a one-time thing will pale in comparison to paying increased insurance premiums over the next several years for her dumbass son. Good luck.

if other person insurance pays - is what i would go for - if repair exceed the estimate - they will ad more money later.

if the person wants to pay - make sure they cover your rental too - in case you don't have a second car.

if you have to pay through your insurance - they could manage to raise your rate somehow later - and if you want to switch to someone else - they could hold it against you for few years..

I didn't even think about additional costs found during repair. Have to talk to the lady about this.

I am not all that concerned about my insurance going up. I had an accident in my 2000 R that was $6800 and it didn't increase.

I had thought about rental and need to mention that to her.

DON'T LET HER DO THAT. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE YOUR CAR TO ANY BODYSHOP YOU WANT. EITHER SHE PAYS THE AMOUNT IN CASH FOR THE BODYSHOP THAT YOU WANT OR HER INSURANCE DOES. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. IF YOU HAVE TO BE A DICK AND GET TOUGH, DO SO, YOU DON'T KNOW HER WHO CARES. IT WOULD BE IN HER BEST INTEREST FOR HER TO PAY YOU CASH FOR THE $1020. MAYBE YOU SHOULD REMIND HER OF THAT. INCREASED INSURANCE PREMIUMS ARE A BITCH.
Agreed.

Not only that, I suggest going through the insurance regardless. Why? Because if their rates go up enough that stunna may just be forced to give up his car. And that would be heartbreaking, wouldn't it.

In all reality I try to treat these people like I woudl want to be treated. I don't want to screw them over I just need to cover my ***. I hit someone about 2 years ago so not just stunnas have accidents.

THis kid was young and dumb and made a mistake. I woudl hate for someone to force me to file insurance so I would lose my car. Would suck if it was you in that situation.

Just thoughts. I am really trying to figure out what to do. I am going back to the body shops to spec out a little more detailed repair. there is a chip in the body where the bumper nicked it. I told them that I would rather have factor paint and touch up paint on that spot. I plan to go back and have the estimates include that cost.
