PY ITR Rear Bumper Detail
Heya folks, long time no post.
On the plus side, my 2001 ITR is still going strong. Needs a little work here and there, but still a good, solid car on the whole.
Downside, some idiot hit my left rear quarter panel, bumper, and edge of my rear skirt in Frisco a few weeks ago. I got it repaired, but the rear bumper doesn't look quite right. I've been back there waxing it enough that you'd think I'd have every detail committed to memory, but apparently not.
The issue is that the new bumper they put on doesn't have the black area at the bottom (inset area that spans the bumper and passes behind the lower edge of the license place. It's recessed, but solid yellow. Even though the body shop is an Acura Dealership, they're confused about what it should be/look like. They're talking about either having to cut the section out or paint it black. I do remember that I didn't have to wax that black area before, and it wasn't shiny or painted.
Here is how it looks now post-repair:

Long winded, but here is what I need. I need someone with a bone stock (at least stock body kit-wise) Phoenix Yellow R (2000 or 2001) to give me a detailed, close image of the recessed area on their rear bumper so I can show it to the body shop and ensure that my car is restored to what is properly should look like.
Any help you can render would be great. Thanks folks!

Same thing happened to my 98 CW when i took it to get resprayed. That part is suppose to be black. It bothers me every time I see It. Probably gonna spray it black.
Ahh, excellent. So it was painted - I thought I recalled a flat black in there. The body shop is willing to make good, we're just trying to figure out how to make it correct.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.
Gotcha - that makes the most sense - I always thought it was an insert of some sort, which is exactly what it would have looked like if it was the raw bumper material and not painted, thanks again.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
I feel your pain. Some jerk painted my front bumper grille yellow. It looks hideous. I'll fix it when it comes outta storage.
This is exactly what I'm worried about when my ITR goes to Acura next month for paint. This part isn't even painted it's just a black plastic, shouldn't be clear coated or anything. It's like painting the inside of the front bumper yellow.
I'm going to throw a fit at the dealer if I pick the car up and see that it's painted, especially after I point it out the day it gets dropped off.

That section isn't painted form the factory originally. It is just a raw black plastic, same as the grill on your front bumper. Aftermarket paint and paint repair shops generally spray it when they repaint a car because if they don't it can peal around the edges. Just have them spray it a satin black and you will never notice the difference.

I dont know if that piece is detachable (looks like it just clips in) but you could just take it out and spray it with aircraft cleaner and it will be back to the black plastic look.
BUT if the dealership is going to make good on their error then have them make it right

It doesn't clip out, it is part of the bumper. It most likely wasn't an error. That is how they paint that sort of stuff. Just tape the area, scuff it and spray it satin black.
