Noob here - ? on rotted rear bumper support on EF hatch
Hey guys. First off, I'm new around these parts so I figured I'd introduce myself before the question. I've been browsing the forum for the past few months and it seems like a real knowledgable group for the most part, with a lot of nice rides.
Anyways, I've been wrenching on cars for about 8 years now and until recently have pretty much been partial to american V8's. I've owned 2 trans ams (one I still have) and a mustang, and have driven a vette and many of my freinds other performance cars. My 86 trans am which I still own is getting a turbocharged LS1 engine and way too many other goodies to list. I got interested in the honda game after my uncle gave me his 1990 civic DX hatchback for free about a year ago. Needed a few odds and ends replaced but nothing major. I've been driving it bone stock for the time, but am getting the itch to modd it now ever since my brother put a D16Z6 into his 90 hatchback. His car is a blast to drive with almost 50 more HP than the original motor, and it doesn't take much to move 2100 lbs.
I'll be looking forward to talking with you all and maybe I can even contribute some help rather than be the one asking the questions all the time!
Back to my original question now.....I've google'd it over and over but can't seem to find anyone that offers an aftermarket replacement rear bumper support beam. Mine just recently rotted off completely and I had to take the bumper off so I didn't cause an accident. I don't like half assing things and don't mind spending some money to fix it right, but I'd rather not pay the $230 that honda wants for it! Any tips on where to find one new or used I would greatly appreciate. Thanks guys!

Local junk yards. Or pick and pulls. Maybe even ask around on hear I'm sure some one hear has one they want to sell if not gl finding one
I actually spent the entire day today trying to hunt one down at a junkyard. Called 2 local junkyards and no dice. Even searched online through car-part.com and theres not one listed! I think I may be in trouble here. Local PD will probably frown on a car with no rear bumper or bumper support and a plate in the back window, lol. I refuse to buy it new from honda and I'm wondering if this car is even worth putting money into with the amount of rust it's got.
ha i did that for my hatch guy i sold it to will never know its wood lol or you can do things right and find a civic and your golden dont give up man some junkyards just dont have what you need somtimes i vote +1 to craigslist

try a "u" steel bar shapedlike this l_l Weld some brackets or weld directly onto ur frame, make sure ur heigth is just right so the bumper will fit...and good luck with the rest!!
Mine rotted out also so i just took it completely off and zip tied it. A few of my buddies in the drifting scene do this so it's easier to replace it it gets trashed. I figure if i get hit by an suv that support won't save my *** anyway. But it will save about 15lbs. My hatch isn't a dd so don't hate.
