^^homomotors is definitely not cheap and the customer service is horrible if your after a d-series (zc sohc) for 88-91 civic/crx...been there, done that.

to the op visit www.cncmotors.com or try engine trend in vernon,ca or soshin trade corp in south gate,ca...i have gotten motors from all three of these companies and you cant beat a 6 month warranty.

I guess i had good luck with them, they were about the same price as anyone else. (i could find that is)

to the OP you might be able to fix your motor cheaper than buying a used one. whats wrong with it?

now where were you when I needed you?! I got a ZC JDM engine from Soshin about 2 yrs ago, now all of a sudden I'm getting hassled about my smog check. I'm a little confused about some things related to my engine, you sound like you might be able to help ... mind if I pick your brain a bit???

i dont know! The guys who put in my engine said I shouldn't have any problems. In fact I passed smog 2 yrs ago right after putting the engine in. Had no problems at all. Now I'm due again and I went to the same Smog Check place and they told me that I have to go to the Referee Station and get a label to put in my door jamb that verifies everything is ok under the hood. So I went to the Ref Station and they are telling me that my ECU is not a valid part #?? As far as I know it's the original one, in any event it's the same one that was on it last smog check when it passed, so I am furious!!!

It matters what zc engine you have I know for sure you can pass with a sohc non-vtec zc but not a dohc zc and I'm not sure about a sohc vtec zc in cali.
And the pm6 should be the right ecu for a sohc zc because its a direct replacement for a d16a6 so I dont see why you would use another ecu unless there's a jdm version of the pm6.

it's the "L070" in the ECU that the Ref is questioning. Says he cannot find any proof that it matches my engine configuration.

que? explain this philosophy?

to everyone else yes you can smog both a zc sohc and a zc dohc motor at any smog check place...now here is where it gets ugly.

you can legally have a zc sohc as a replacement motor in any 88-91 civic/crx but you cannot have a zc dohc since it was never offered in the states...if a smog place gives you a hard time with the zc dohc then just take your business elsewhere.

now if you are dpfi with a d15b1/d15b2 and want to legally go mpfi the easy way, just use a zc sohc replacement longblock and use a d16a6 complete intake manifold with sensors and a pm6 ecu and you are good to go.

so you can pass smog with a SOHC zc engine but not the DOHC right???
and that should just be a straight drop in? just drop it and connect everything do i need a different ECU and stuff or anything else i should know about before i drop get it??
