Brad Penn offers a break-in oil if you're interested. Best way to check if an engine has "broken in" is to do a leak-down test and see how well the rings are seated.

We normally use the break in oil as well, but if its a race motor, I'm not sure I'd care too much. Hell, I never change the oil in the race car unless I have to drain it for some other reason, lol.

Do you really need to use the break in oil, or can you just go straight to the regular BP?? I used 20w50 all last year with great results.

I'm starting with a fresh motor this coming season, which is why I'm asking.

Thanks

Use the break in oil newly built motor. Let it idle on it for a good 20-30 mins. Drain and replace with your engine builders recommendations on the oil.

Break in oil until the tops of the pistons are dry. Usually 20ish miles on the dyno. Then Brad Penn of whatever weight you need. Seems to work great, we ran it all last year.

The zinc in the break in oil is the important part that is missing in modern conventional oils. Where we have seen a notable different is on camshaft wear. Don't just pour it in...take the valve cover off and really lube the **** out of the cam for before initial startup.

yea the non-break in oil also has the increased amount of zinc. the reason i went with brad penn is due to the cam and cam journal wear from modern oils.

I used non-synthetic valvoline and added the lucas brake in additive and broke it in on the dyno.No problems there...i also bought an oil filter magnet, its a good investment if your braking in.

Another good option is Valvoline VR1 oils. They also

have a higher zinc(zddp) content. I have been using

it on the supra and teg since the engine rebuild.

I own a tube of their GP household oil.

I'll be running some tests with it on door hinges real soon.
