wide band 02 sensor for hondata s300
i did the obd0 conv to the obd1. i now want to install a wide band 02 sensor to the ecu. which route should i go with?
a few ideas i have are:
buy kit like AEM. install it to the ecu and the guage that comes with the kit.
buy just the o2 sensor and wire it up to the ecu only.
buy an o2 sensor from pepboys. its for another car so im not sure how the wiring is going to work

i had a lc1 wired in to the ELD input on the ecu, and i also removed the required resistors so it would support a full 0-5v. i was running neptune so not sure if it makes a difference, i have no hondata experience
I removed my stock O2 sensor and replaced it with an LC1 wideband that my Hondata S300 can read. It allows me the option of running it in closed loop but is also good for tuning on a dyno as the shop doesn't need to use their O2 to tune my car.
Pretty positive civic vx's have wideband 02s out the box, don't know what kinda luck you'd have finding a vx in a junkyard but jus a fyi
If you don't mind paying the money, the AEM kit is primo

Widebands are so cheap now it's not worth trying to go that route. $199 and under for a gauge type wideband from aem or innovate...
i was just introduced to the plx devices.
i was told that the unit works very well with hondata s300. the s300 has an option in the selection of o2 sensors for plx units.
im interested in the sm-afr unit now.
how easy is it to wire up?
is there a plug n play for it since i have the 4 wire plug harness from rywire?
i hate splicing so ill avoid it if i can.

You will likely have to find a switch 12 volt power supply. Ground wire, Output signal wire to the ecu on an input such as ELD (Requires removal of 2 resistors) refer to the hondata help file. It is there for a reason :-)
sorry to thread jack. but
from my knowledge, PLX > AEM kits? It seems as if all PLX kits are cake wiring to s300, while AEM has given everyone nothing but headaches (me as well)

True. I would put AEM widebands at the bottom of the choice pile. Innovative would be my other choice (and is the one I run which is linked to my hondata s300).
Ive only had experience with the PLX 300 which I believe uses the Bosch sensor. Ive had mine installed in my car for about 5 years now with no issues. One good thing about the Bosch sensors are they are cheap if you have to replace them ( i heard around $50). I think its a late model VW part # the plx kit uses.
The Innovate MTX-L would be my choice for the price:

Then, I tuned a kpro unit and when you record your data logs and do a WOT pull with AFR readings that sh*t is bad to the bone! I'm sure you could teach a baby monkey to tune if you have a wideband wired up

lol....well i wouldn't say it was a piece of cake wiring in the wideband but I followed the guide closely, asked a lot of questions and it worked flawlessly when tuning (after tinkering with my voltage offsets). My car can use the wideband in closed loop if I wanted too but I find the car works better in open loop. I just wanted that option available to me which is why I wired it that way. A shop doesn't have to change out my O2 when I come in for tuning so it's easier.
Simply wire the 0-5 output to the ELD port on the ecu, remove resistors R136 and R138, Disable ELD under paremeters. Set ELD as your lamda input under parameters etc.
^^ ahh, i was hoping i didn't have to remove the resisters in my ecu. When I locate the resisters can I just snip it with a pair of dikes?

plx devices wont tell me cause they say they sell replacements for only 75.00 plus shipping

Id find a dealer vw tech if possible and grill him for info. Theres a good chance he might have one in his toolbox you could compare.
