Default 1990 Civic EX Exhaust/Header Help

http://www.hondapartsnow.com/electri...st~system.html

Please refer to the link above for what I'm referring to.

Ref. No 8 (A PIPE)
Ref. No. 6 (connector)
Ref. No 20 (B PIPE - cat converter/mid pipe)

6 connects 8 and 20 together. Previous owner welded the bolts on 6 and 20 and had to cut them off. Now, 20 is literally hanging.

If I ran a DC header (or any other aftermarket header) will it eliminate the use of 6?

I've never seen #6, notice how it's listed as "not available", I am under the impression it is an OEM cat-con delete pipe, which is not legal for sale in the USDM. On my car, and others I've seen, it goes like this: pipe 8 > cat-con > pipe 20. So to answer your question, pipe 6 isn't needed with aftermarket headers, they mate up to the cat-con (or at least my Ebay header does).

that's just strange though cause my car is USDM, EX, and another fella I just spoke to who has an LX has the same thing..

That said, pipe20 for my car, begins with a cat. converter and then the piping...

it depends, and yes, i have one too. and when i say it depends, it depends on how long the down pipe is for the after market header. it might be just as long as a stock header which would still leave you in the same spot, but i can' say for sure, i still have my stock header.

I just did a header swap on my car and I had three different pipes under the car. The actual header, a kinda S-shaped one and a long straight one going back to the exaust that also included the cat. When I put the new header on my car it deleted the S-shaped pipe. My car is a 1991 hatch std. Hopefully this helped.
