-8an fittings internal diamater? all the same?
hi all, im currently up-grading my fuel system to a twin bosch 044 setup, which you have all seen before. anyway, ive got my pumps, complete with -8 an inlet and outlet fittings for the pumps. now i know -8 refers outside diameter of pipe, but should all fittings have the same internal bore? i.e shouldnt a -8 fitting slip over a -8 tube, thus making it 1/2" ID.
im confused because 1 of my -8 pump fittings is a tiny ID, approx 5mm. on the -8 an side its 1/2", but on the other side (the m12 side thats screws into the pump itself) it drops in bore
see here..

i cant help thinking this drop in ID will kill flow, it seems pointless running -8 lines/rail etc only to have a 5mm ID restriction in the system.
is this normal, or have i got a dodgy fitting?
secondly, does anyone drill it out to a larger ID? i realise that this will weaken the fitting, but i figure i will swap it for a steel version, rather than ally, and then drill it out another 2mm or so, which to my calcs will yield almost 100% flow increase at the same pressure at that point.
thanks in advance

The ID of our 8 AN fittings is .385" (9.779mm) - however, on our 12mm x 8 AN adapter, the ID on the 12mm side is only .265" (6.731mm) because that is all there is room for. If you went bigger, you'd compromise the 12mm threads. No way to get around that.
A. 8 AN is overkill for the outlet of a single 044 - but since there's nothing wrong with overkill, if you want 8 AN, use 8 AN. (for reference: 6 an hose will flow ~1100 lb/hr before it presents a significant restriction, 044's flow ~400 lb/hr at operating pressure)
B. If you look at the banjo fitting Bosch supplies for the pump, their fitting has an ID of .240" (6.096mm) then necks down to .125" (3.175mm) before the outlet....
You're fine. Plumb it & run it.
I wouldn't ream that fitting out either - it has to support several pounds of fuel and hose against g-force & vibration. Thinning that material out greatly increases the chances of it snapping off.

superb, just the info i was looking for, and yeah i just noticed the banjo fitting, so if bosch rate there pumps at 400lb/hr, knowing it has to sqeeze through 3.1mm, thats good enough for me, there not exactly a small outfit
guess i`ll just "plumb it and run it"
cheers mate

lol nice.
We've been working on our house since August; one room led to another until we knocked out the entire first floor. Just got the Air-tub installed Saturday
so now we can tile the bathroom, then we'll finally be done.
