Alright, this is a question that I have thought about for a little bit. I need to get my car detailed. The company that I am going through is charging a little over $400 for a complete detail. I told them I wanted my car to look brand new. Now, with that said, what is a basis for tipping? Do you even tip at that price point (I don't tip my mechanic)? Or do you just follow the 15-20% restaurant rule? Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to diss the guys working on my car. Thanks!
If they do a good job tip them. Especially if you might use them in the future. If they do a good job my guess is you will. They will remember you if you tip. I would get tipped pretty regularly when I detailed full time. As far as how much that is hard to say. I would be happy with a 20 spot for a 12 pack, but if you are paying 400 I would go 40 if I was satisfied.

I figured that I should tip something. You never want to be "that guy" that stiffed the detailer. As said above, especially if you send them work or go back.

I always Like a tip when I get done. It's just like a little cherry on top. Usually I get $20-$50 on a $300-$500 detail job. but I have gotten $100 tip before. It all depends on the client. if they make $100,000 a year then a $50 tip isn't that much to them, but if its an average person then a $20 tip is perfectly fine.
