Tranny gears all mixed up?
i just picked up a 97 gsr.. owner said tranny is blown and doesnt run but after testin it out i found out that the gears aren't in their right places when you shift.
1st gear = reverse
2nd gear = 3rd
3rd gear = 2nd
besides this, it actually drives and shifts fine.. is this fixable and if so worth it?? i was going to just pick up another gsr tranny but seeing if the trannys not gone gone

BUMP FROM THE DEAD! I just picked up a 92 Hatch with the same problem. All the gears are randomly places like 1st is where 2nd should be and 2nd is where 3rd should be. 4 is where 3rd should be....wtf?
I don't even know how this is possible. You couldn't have the gears stacked wrong, that's impossible. The only other thing could be the linkage, but I don't see how that's even possible. In any case, get a new trans.
Post video for proof, if possible.

i've seen people, or heard rather, on this board assemble bullshit trannys for bullshit customers or otherwise for just dirt cheap where the gears were an odd mix.
(ie, si 4th gear and an hf 3rd gear make for a down shift when going from 3rd to 4th. not sure if that's quoteable, but you get the idea)
but as far as actually just somehow destroying the shift mechanism in the tranny and allowing these symptoms, it's possible. maybe possible. never seen it, but i suppose it's probable.
