Default Anyone else running an aftermarket cam in SoCal on the street?

Just wondering if there's other rides out here running a stage 2 camshaft, or has Cali smog fighting tactics scared everyone away from cams?
I installed the Comp/Zex 59300 earlier today in my Z6, results aren't great but personally I thought it was worth it - maybe it'll be better when I get around to retarding the timing like I should of done earlier.
As I was driving earlier I started thinking, I see tons of Honda's (specifically Civics) all the time yet never seen one running a cam as far as I know and at least not any that sounded like mine, all loud lol....

Anyone ever get pulled over while running an aftermarket cam, even if it wasn't the cause of the stop, and get harassed by a cop over it?
Anyone ever pass smog with a cam?

Yes, I've searched, but it's hard to find camshaft topics relating only to Cali.

OEM valve train, after searching here I found people were doing perfectly fine on the stock valve train so long as they kept the stock redline.
I try not to draw attention to myself, but I know sooner or later I'm gonna see those red & blue's light up from behind me.
I'm sure I'm not feeling the full power of the cam yet - since I'm waiting on more parts to arrive. But it's nerve racking when you hear about all these car crushings, huge fines, impounds, smog dyno check points, etc going on in this irritating state.

I guess it's just nice to know others running similar stuff in their daily's are dealing with the same BS.

Are you talking about running on a SOHC engine? My car can't pass smog for other reasons besides a set of aftermarket camshafts. =P

I had the bisimoto level 2 cams and his headers as a daily driver. Ran great saved gas not loud or lopey. Well, my engine was also tuned. I wouldn't recommend doing camshaft without a tune. Unless u have an adj. fuel press. reg. and know how to set the timing to make it a little better.

I think I'll post a video up when I get a chance, let you guys hear it cause this thing doesn't sound right, but it may just be me. I've never cam'd a car before.

Yeah, my little D16Z6.

Well, she's not tuned. I just zero'd the cam gear out, and will be starting another valve lash and spark timing adjustment.

Well tuning will have to wait now. My distributor destroyed itself and she's slowly but surely jumping the valve timing and idk why yet, both issues occured at the same time and I barely even put 100 miles on the new cam.

But I did adjust the valves before I ever fired her up after the cam install. I did them all twice and took my time. Set them to the Comp/Zex recommendations (.007" IN, .009" EX). The distributor wasn't a real surprise though, I knew it was slowly dieing the last couple months - went through 3 oil rings and still wouldn't stop leaking, it's coil died on me, and the ignition control module was screwing up.
Still trying to figure out the timing issue though, I'm suspecting the belt may be stretched or a bad tensioner...but idk, it's making some weird noises no one else seems to have ever run into before.

aha, I'm still new to the whole tuning and modifying thing. This stock Z6 is kind of like my Guinea Pig for experimenting, I'd rather make my newb mistakes and destroy the Z6 and learn from the mistakes before a more expensive and better motor.

CA smog laws are a joke, we just don't follow them. Illegal smogs, stolen tags, DMV scams... there's a bunch of ways to get around it. I had a built ls/vtec in my civic SI that was "smog legal" but I never actually smogged it. Had legit tags too. There's ways, you just won't find 'em on google lol.
