Strange Thing Happened Today...
Ok, first a bit of background info - I've been having an idle problem over the last 2 months (I barely drove it so hadn't properly investigated it till now), it was hunting alot and idleing around 1500rpm. I cleaned the IACV and adjusted the idle screw to try and fix it. None of that worked, turned out to be a vacuum hose which had come off. So once that was back on the idle stopped fluctuating, but the idle was still high (because I had been playing with the screw). So today I reset the idle to 800rpm, then gave the car a service, changed engine oil (Mobil 10w40), gearbox oil (MTF 94), fitted spoon magnetic bolts, replaced spark plugs (NGK), and fuel filter (OEM). Everything went smoothly, the only thing that was a bit strange was the engine only took approx 3.9l of oil, but I put that down to not being able to get all the oil out (I had warmed the engine up prior to draining it). Also might be worth mentioning I used the smaller magnetic bolt for the gearbox and longer one for engine.
So after all this was done, I went to drop my friend home, idle was perfect, engine and gearbox both felt alot smoother, also its alot easier to get into gear. Before the service, when the car was coming to a stop before dipping the clutch the car would jerk, this has now stopped. So anyway I was in 4th gear at 3k revs when all of a sudden the revs jumped to 4k then dropped to 1k, but there was no change in speed, it was as if I had just put my foot on the clutch, then hit the accelerator and kept my foot on the clutch. I quickly put it into 3rd and everything was fine the rest of the way home, wtf happened?!
My gearbox is a bit knackered, has poped out of gear once before and whines a bit at low rpm on the motorway but no crunches or anything.

Keep driving it, it if continues you have a issue. I'm not convinced something won't fix itself out here. Odd yes, but nothing constant doesn't concern me as much as if it was.
After talking to a few friends I think the most likely explaination is that it poped out of 4th, and as my foot was on the accelerator and the clutch was dissengaged the car reved up to 4k rpm then dropped back to 1k rpm like it would have had I put the car in neutral while driving. At the time I could have sworn it was still in 4th when I changed down to 3rd but it all happened so fast I could be mistaken, also just installed FLP shifter about a month ago so I'm still getting used being able to tell what gear its in just by holding the gear ****.

I think it was just because it happened straight after I did a bunch of stuff to the car.
