Default B20vtec with type r cams question?

I have a b20b engine with the flat top pistons.I have changed the rod bolts to arp.I have also put a B16 head on it with stock B16 cams.I dynoed it 166whp with a microtech ecu.The problem i had is that when it reached 7400rpm it stopped making hp.No more hp increase. So they told me that the B16 cams were to small for the engine so thats why it doesn't make any hp increase after 7400rpm.Now i bought a set of type r cams with type r retainers.Just wanna know what rpm i can go the highest with the type r cams?Just looking for rev limmit and still be on the safe side.I was thinking going 8600rpm?Any suggestions?tnx

I see you got cams and retainers, but what about springs? I'd put some stronger valve springs in there BEFORE you put bigger cams in. Your redline is determined by valve float, not cam size. It's gotta be done if you want to safely rev high.
I was making just under 200 whp with my old b20vtec, but It was fully built.

What flat top pistons? Stock or aftermarket? If they are stock pistons, stick to the ITR cams and stock cam gears. If you have aftermarket pistons with adequate valve reliefs...go bigger than ITR cams for sure. JUN, Skunk, Rocket Motorsports, Buddyclub, etc. Get it re-tuned with bigger injectors, the stock injectors will hold you back as well.

Your rev limit should be a couple hundred RPMs above wherever the motor stops making power.

What are the specs on the motor? Which bolt on parts? etc. My B20Vtec stopped making power at about 9200 rpms...my rev limiter is at 9400.

yeah i have the original b20b pistons that came with the motor. The only thing i have is that i changed the original rod bolt to arp.I have the adjustable cam gears.I had a mechanic have it degreed also,so that the timing wasn't that off anymore when setting the timingbelt. No problem with injectors because i have 440cc if the stock ones run out.And i have microtech ecu so the tuning would be easy for the tuner be.Now just bought the type r,springs, retainers, cams. With the b16 cams.Stopped making power at 7400.So with this setup now how much you think i can go?tnx

Put in the 440cc injectors for sure. As far as those cam gears, leave them at 0,0. You don't have tons of room to play with cam timing due to the smaller valve reliefs on the stock pistons.

I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how high you can go, that will be determined by your engine. What header and intake are on the motor now?

That intake manifold and throttle body aren't helping your top end power.

Nor are the 440 Injectors...They arent helping you at all.
Your stock one will hold up to 200 Hp
If your really looking for power, ditch the DC, Get a Hytech tri Y or a kiddracing.
Hytech scores 9 hp over the DC 4-1 Longtube.

Somethings wrong tho, you should be making power above 74...
Is your CAT clogged?
What exhaust?

I have the 440 for spare.not using them.just using the stock ones.I have no catback.I have a 70mm trottle body at home. But I need a bigger intake for it.And some people say its to big for my stock engine.

There is nothing wrong with 440cc injectors, just because they are larger doesn't mean they are squirting out that amount of fuel all the time. The tuning software is used to dial them in. I have 440cc injectors and made 240whp...

Oh don't get me wrong. All I meant was that the 440 aren't really doing any more good that the stock ones

Stock injectors aren't ideal if you want to make good power. I maxed out stockers a couple of years back at only 170 whp on a dynojet. We had to crank out the pressure to almost 60psi from what I can remember.

Having that buffer with larger injectors is always nice. OP, throw them on when you go to the dyno next so you don't have to worry about limiting your power due to lack of fuel.

Try a Skunk2 manifold and a Professional Products 68mm TB. They work well up top. The header should work fine with what you've got now. I'd change it out if you go with a better set of pistons or even now if you have the money.

Let us know how the build progresses
