Cams Anyone???
Here I go beating a dead horse, but what personal experiences have people had with cams and which ones are the best? I know its been beat to death but I'm looking at going with the Skunk2 Pro 1. Thank you for any feedback.
How about more info.
Best cams depend on your current setup, turbo cams? High CR cams, mild street cams?
First start of by mentioning what you currently have done, your budget and your goals.

Alright good point. What I have, 96 spec B18c5, H/E/CAI. It is in a 88 DX sedan. I plan on keeping it NA and want to go mild. Plans are to go with the Mugen head gasket with the ARP studs, bringing my compression to around 11.5/1. Just want a good cam for a mild setup so I can tune it and get somewhere around 190-200 whp.
personally. the only b18c cam i would even use are the jun3, easy to tune, grinds are spot on and they make power. the endyn copy aka the bumpstix is also a good grind. pro1s make power, skunk just has issues every so often with a bad grind.
Thank you. That was the kind of informed response I was hoping for.

the blox c is a copy of the jun3 profile, BUT, the actual jun cams are not only higher quality. they are worth a LOT more on the used market if you ever decide to sell them. one broken cam is an expensive way to learn. this happens more than a lot of us like to think with the copied cams. skunk, blox, even crower. oem honda, spoon, toda and jun never have had QC issues with any of their grinds
there is also the full car resale to think about. if you mod an R with blox, skunk and common aftermarket crap you'll either get the same or less than stock. mod the R with jun cams, koni shocks, a hytech exhaust you'll often fetch more than stock.
unless it's a 10k mile car that should be kept stock as a showcase example

Why don't you post this in the all-motor or hybrid forum? Your car is not an ITR and there are more proper forums for this question.
Personally I'd worry about reinforcing and/or fixing that old chassis to handle the power you have rather than spending $1000 for 5-10 more HP. What's the point in 200whp if you can't put it down or your car is all over the place in the corners (and/or looks like a pile of crap)?

My car needs paint, you got me there. The chassis? Did i say the chassis was stock? Don't make assumptions based solely upon the lack of a strut bar. It amazes me the separation and snobbery that is so much apart of the import scene. Amazed is the wrong word, ashamed, is much closer to the truth.
it's not the import scene, just a few members in the itr forum. if they had it their way almost no one would post and it would all be about the 100% factory correct itr's and how awesome they are
Good to know. The strong divide in the scene is disheartening. But much like rat rodders and hot rodders I guess the competition and dislike is an almost necessary ingredient.
There are more specific forums for my tech related question, but what place to get a better answer about a specific motor than in the forum dedicated to the only car that came stock with that motor?

Your car is a hybrid so post in that forum. I also have an EF with a couple of ITR parts on it, but you don't--and never have--seen me posting here asking questions about it.
"Import Scene" cracks me up. This is always a reference to the car show morons who rust their hoods and go for the stretch-n'-poke look. ITR owners have mainly always been about actually using their cars on the autox and roadcourse and could give two ***** less about any kind of "scene" there may or may not be.

This debate rages on. Those who don't own ITRs see no problem with it. Those who do wish folks would post in other (more proper) forums. People with genuine ITRs don't spend the cash looking for huge all-motor B upgrades anymore. It's just not really the culture like it once might have been (I see more K-swaps than I do built OEM blocks).

Again, there are fourums where you won't get the backlash. Try using them.

Lol, what an ***.
Dude, it's a f'ing Honda. YOU'RE NOT COOL BECAUSE YOU OWN A $10,000 INTEGRA. No one thinks you are. In fact, I think you're a bit of a 'tard for thinking your Honda is so cool. Telling someone their car looks like crap because it's a civic DX is just plain rude. He had a legitimate question about his ITR motor, I see NO problem with asking a question in the ITR forum. Elitist ****** are what make this "scene" suck, not the idiots with the rusted hoods and hellaflush wheels. (Although God knows they are trying.... :/)
While his car might actually BE a "hybrid", he certainly wasn't asking a "hybrid" question. If he asked what exhaust fits his civic with ITR swap, by all means, direct him to the hybrid section. Just don't come off like a total ******* when someone is trying to learn. We all are into the same hobby, I don't see why we have to fight amongst ourselves.

If OP wants to learn, then post the question in a forum where folks can help him better.
And look, I'm explaining all of this to someone whom I'm assuming doesn't own an ITR either?

"Import Scene" cracks you up? I used a generalized term about a group of people that share the same interest. Holy **** your pompous *** would complain about anything. You didn't have to read this thread, you certainly didn't have any pertinent information to share, albeit we are all probably not worthy of sharing in your glorious wealth of knowledge. The way you talk of ITR owners draws a picture of more grandiloquent Wasps sitting around in smoking jackets puffing on pole, er, I mean pipes. Thankfully I'm not a kid that doesn't know any better, I realize that just because you have the money doesn't mean you have the sense.
And FWIW, I clicked into this thread because I've helped build a few mild B-series C5's with cams in ITRs. But this was back when you were probably still in early middle school reading Import Tuner magazines at lunchtime.
Again, you can brush this off how you want, but you can't deny the fact that there are other forums better suited for this question. Had I run across it in hybrid or all-motor, I probably would have posted something constructive up. But yet again, we have typical dude with EF/EG/EK with "ITR" parts in his car coming in this forum asking a bunch of questions that need to be elsewhere.
Stay classy
and as much as I want to go faster and have more power and this and that... recently I have really started to appreciate what a work of art our cars are. The way it is from the factory IMO could best be described as perfect, the perfect balance, everything in harmony and truely amazing. Sure some beater with a built motor might walk me in a straight line, but this car is rare and one of a kind. Its a factory race car.
Wow, help the guy out and give him some advice...you guys do not own this forum...just because he does not own a Type-R doesnt mean he cant come in here and ask questions about his TYPE-R motor. With all the effort you guys put into bashing each other you could have had a decent conversation about the subject ! Grow up !
Edit- my rant was mainly towards Todd00... Whoever the hell you THINK you are...

And I beg to differ on forum 'ownership'. A specific forum is what it is and the tone is set by the participating members of it. You have either not been here in a while or very infrequently happen around, but the ITR part questions are better handled in the forum or genre (of car) of which they are being discussed.
Point: OP's car is a 88 Civic with a 96-Spec JDM motor in it. Neither of which have anything, at all, to do with a 97+ USDM/CDM ITR (which is what this forum is). If OP had said sorry, he'll post in hybrid/all-motor, this thread would have died a long time ago. But they usually don't and the morons come out of the woodwork with the "ITR = normal integra" and "ITR owners are elistist". Sigh. Now that's a dead horse.
Thank you for the rant, but it's been covered already
