Default Getting started in Honda drag

I am coming from aircooled VW land- I did do some bracket with the car.
But I know anything that gets too fast takes far too damn much maintenance.

I would like to build an all motor civic for the 1/4 mile, preferably using the B series.

Problem is, while I do know a bit about engines, I am sure that the rules change in the world of hondas- a lot more then I am used to.

What kind of cars/engines/budget does it take to be competitive?

Do any of the sanctioning bodies you guys compete in have index racing?
I would like to surely see the 9s for the first time :D

Well ur gunna have problems seeing 9s in an all motor b series unless u got alot of money...far as that goes any all motor car unless u build a pro fwd car which isnt cheap at all. Your best bet for the money is turbo b series you can go 9s on a basic set up nothing too expensive... Just my 2 cents.

Yeah actually that just kinda hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw the latest issue of D-Sport.
What car would be a good base to go off of?

Well...
One thing though- I am not even going to bother with heads up. He who has the most money wins there. Are their bracket events or index events for the other import folks out there?

There are sanctioning bodies East and West coast (IFO, NSCRA, BOTI). In northern cali we have our local track giving us import events every month. Depends where you live and how you want to race. The east has the bigger crowd though.

I got a CRX with a K motor in it for sale. (look in for sale section)

The K motor may be a better way to go.

I kinda am a Nomad thanks to the military.

The perk to the beetle was that I could run a 12.0-12.4 in that thing all day long, and I would do ok in local bracket events.

But I would like to step up to something that is more of the big time, something a lot faster and a lot easier to work with.

The only reason I was looking at the B series was how cheap they are compared to the Ks, or have times changed in that sense?

Is running a high performance N/A system as expensive as a turbo system in Honda land?

Eg/dc chassis is ideal for drag racing and its reasonably cheap... I would do a stock motor k or b series boosted...my car was as consisitant and the next fwd 5speed car and u can make 300-400 wheel hp easily on pump gas with a basic setup...i have about 6500-7500 in my car and ive went 10.55 my best but basically 10.7s all day... Mine is a stock gsr on 17psi made 450whp on pump 93... A good all motor setup will cost u about the same man if not more

Yeah I kinda figured.

What could a 15,000 dollar total budget get me you think not counting the car?

with 15k if you plan it well including the car you can runs low 10s on a boosted b...check the classifieds and the drag racing fs section...built heads, blocks for almost half of what it would cost u to do it from scratch...the best part of hondas is parts..somebody is always quitting and you can buy some decnt stuff for good prices...but watch out..their are alot of lowlifes also in this game...you could also swap in a k24a2 from tsx spend 9k on swap then piece together a turbo kit around 3.5k with decent parts no ebay crap...and have 2.5k for hondata kpro 1000cc Id injectors and a good tune...ive seen stock k20a2 on an eg running low 10s on 12-13psi...

My set up for next year is gunna run me about 10k and i plan on running 9s consistantly...it would help if u knew some people too so u wont get ripped off! U could be competitive in true street on a 15k budget

If you do all the work yourself and finding good used parts 15k will take you really far.

There is a member here selling a awesome EG chassis that is certed to run 7.50. All you would need is a decent engine/tranny and you could run low 9's all day. Check out "rota92"

Its going to be a while before I get started. I figured I could come here and learn a lot of stuff before I jumped head long into this all with out knowing what I needed to know.

I did that when I started in on aircooled VWs, and I made a costly mistake in the process.

Does it really matter which honda i choose?

You'll want a light chassis...the CRX is one of the the lightest chassis you can get...a stock '88 HF will tip the scales at a little over 1800 lbs. A fully stripped CRX will weigh between 1600-1800. EGs are light too, the lightest being around 2100 lbs (the VX/CX) Stripped, probably under 2000 lbs. 1/10 sec for every 100 lbs you shed, so...

I'd stick to eg dc chasis because it's more common and you won't have issues with space. If I had to start all over I'd by a shell with a 10 point already.

You have the right idea. read, read, read, make a list of what you think you need, put cost with the items on the list.

It will give you a idea of what your in for. One thing is, there is a ton of support out there. You just need to know what you want and be willing to learn.

This forum will help get you all the answers.

Thanks for the info man.
Hondas are pretty straight forward in terms of prepping them for drag- not like old freaking aircooleds...
