Default Same thermostat issue

I have an 88 hb base with a d15b1. I recently changed the thermostat and now the heat works a lot better, but the lower radiator hose which goes to the thermostat housing doesnt get hot even when the upper house is hot and i ve driven it for a half hour. what could be causing this? I filled the over flow bottle and opened the bleeder hoping to let any air out and that hasnt done anything. thanks in advance

That might be normal(I can't find anything to back this up, but I thought that coolant was pulled into the engine from the lower hose(cooler temp), and pushed out at the upper hose). There isn't a reason for coolant to circulate unless it reaches the temp that the thermostat opens at. Generally if the water pump goes out or is going out the car will run hot and you will notice it on the gauge.

very true FSR depending on how cold it is out side is how fast the radiator cools down the coolant in it. which after 30 mins should only be a few degrees cooler then the engine temp of 190 or 180 meaning water after 30 mins should be around 150 in the radiator IF its 30 degrees but since he is in upstate new york its probably 3 degrees and freezing which is cooling the coolant almost instantly..

I should have looked at where hes from im in Louisville ky and its 7 degrees here lol

Could it be that it is air bound and a pain to bleed because that's what my father thinks

Probably not. Bleeding that system is pretty straightforward. Just open the bleed screw and wait until coolant comes out while filling it. You can also run it with the rad cap off and see if the level goes down.
