fuel, spark and no start
I just got a 91 4 door and drove it for 2 days parked it next morning it would start up for a sec then die. I didn't have much gas so I went and got some, pressure turns out to spec constant 38-40psi when primed and about the same when its turning. It has a 3mth old fuel filer (I know because the car was my buddies),tried a known good ecu, I also tried 2 known good distributors and still nothing. If I turn the motor for a long while it starts to sound like its ready to go on its own but doesn't quite get there, anyone have any suggestions or any info to point me in the right direction?, thanks!
so i spent some time checking out the plugs and decided to do a compression test....i expected low numbers but i was surprised to see 30, 80, 80, 120 (cold test) and the last cyl had a bunch of oil in it from the lack of a valve cover plug gasket so its probably just as low without the oil..... so to my question, is it possible that those numbers are the cause of my no start condition? It ran decent last time i drove it, im guessing it had the same compression as it does now..at this point im really just trying to figure out if i should start looking for a new bottom end or keep troubleshooting.... i only planned on driving this for a few months then selling it so this is a weak sauce situation lol
That is some real low compression. Normal is 185, the minimum is 135. i know a D15b2 will run on 120, but that was 120 in all cylinders. I would assume that the compression is your issue.
Check to make sure the timing is correct and do a leakdown test.
