90 Hatch Si D16A6 spontanious motor dieing
My civic is starting to act up. Every once and a while, it just dies. It will start right back up when started. Mostly happens at low throttle position. Happens on the freeway and in town. I already replaced the ignitor module with an OEM Honda part. Seems like a lose ground wire, worn out TPS or ?? My master relay is also not that old ~3 yrs (8K miles). Any ideas? It definitely seems like spark though as when it does die on the freeway it will not bump start until the ignition switch is turned off then on again.
Thanks
Thanks

Bump this thread? I haven't had any responses to any potential issues. I also would like some advice on the TPS. I want to replace it but it looks like its riveted in place? How is the part changed if there are no screws to hold it in place? This car has over 300K on it and im starting to think a TPS is in order.
Its your ignition switch. These parts go bad due to our cars being old, when it dies? Does your oil pressure light and check engine light turn off? Or come on? I'm sure you have noticed but any time you turn your key to the on position lights come on in the cluster. Well I had same issue with my hatch,, where I would be cruising and just out of now where it would die, the ignition switch is made of plastic and that plastic wears and tears. It explains why when ur on the free way and when it tides it won't roll start. You have to turn ignition off and then back on, which sends power back to your fuses and harness. By a new ignition switch, they are like $65 at autozone, and really easy to change. That will definitely fix your problem
88 hatch. That really makes sense. Thanks for the tip. Going to check that out right away. Havent noticed the cluster lights. Wasn't paying attention to the connection with the lights and other symptoms as Im typically in some sort of traffic when it happens and am frantically dealing with getting it started again. Once I was in the fast lane passing a semi. Others I've had the car die all the way and I've had to pull off the freeway, but it would start right back up, like a top, and run great????
Thanks again. Something for me to check into. What do you think about my TPS question?
Cheers

Tps could be going bad, but u will feel symptoms such as ur car bogging any time u get on the throttle hard. But I really am set. On it being ur ignition switch, swap it out and let us know how that worked out
88 Hatch. The throttle response is crisp. It seems the only time it dies is when it goes off throttle from steady rpm running or just being revved. I'll check on the ignition. Would never have narrowed it down to that as it starts like a top so figure the contacts in the barrel would be good and it has never shown signs of stuttering when letting off the ignition upon starting which would be a good time to raise its ugly head I would think?
