A complete list of possible scenarios on why the motor cranks but does not start
Ok, i want a complete list of possible scenarios on why a car cranks but not start. I know the common scenarios such as distributer ignition coil bad, spark plugs bad, injectors.... I know the stages of combustions as they relate to the problem, and the importance of grounding the engine, but i want everything but in a list format for compilation as a potential sticky.....like how we have a sticky for cel codes instead of a large amount of threads on varios cel codes
The basics...
No fuel - no fuel, bad pump, bad PGM-FI Main Relay, bad injectors, clogged fuel lines or filter, bad FPR, bad ECU, blown fuse, poor electrical connection someplace in the circuit.
No spark - bad/wrong plugs, bad spark plug leads, bad distributor/sensors, bad coil, bad ICM, poor electrical connections in the circuit.
No compression. bad rings, bad valve seats, bent/damaged valves, blown HG, damaged block/head.
Ign. timing not correct - not adjusted properly.
Valve timing not correct - not adjusted properly.
Any one of the above or a combination of any of the above would/could result in cranking but no start, and I would be willing to bet I missed something. 94

Good stuff to all who posted, if there is any other possible scenarios please free to list... and ill compile it to a sticky for easy access.

When you mentioned valve timing, is that the lash?
Ign. timing and spark plug fire order are two different things.
Valve timing and lash are two different things. 94
