Before you do any modifications, figure out what you want from the car.
Will you autocross it? If so, look at the Solo2 rules for STS
Make short-term and long-term goals, making sure that you don't have to spend money twice for the same modification. For example: don't get a CAI (cold air intake) if you're going Forced Induction.
The best suspension modification for the buck is a Type R Swaybar with the BSQ kit. This is a fun first do-it-yourself mod.
Do lots of research. Honda Tech is a great resource for information. The search function has an archive of information that is incredibly valuable for a newbie such as yourself.
Ask appropriate questions, and you will recieve appropriate answers.
Good luck. Have fun!

Congrats on the buy bro. What'd you pay if you don't mind my noseyness? Well you can advance the timing a couple degrees if it isn't already, that's usually worth a point or 2. The R rear sway is a great mod as was mentioned previously. Highly recomended. If you have the stock tires on it, burn them! Next I'd say an intake. This is a first mod for allot of people. I like to run NGK copper plugs too, though allot of people prefer the stock platinums. I just like fresh plugs every 15k or so. Have fun with it!

Just take your time and research the parts your getting.
Don't get cheaper parts(springs/exhaust) just so you can have a drop or exhaust sound then regret it later down the road and have to replace it again and waste double the money.
Do it right the first time and don't rush anything.
How many miles on it?
