Yes a manifold is not something that one can put together and expect good performance, it needs lots of R&D testing to come up with a manifold that can perform good "for a specific engine". Spend the extra money on a well designed manifold suited for ur engine and you will be happy!!

My friend designed a "box type plenum" manifold. It litterally looked like a damn box with four runners. It was terrible to tune and idled like poop. I am not dis-couraging you, I am just saying you can't just get a bunch of sheet metal and make a random shape.

list your motor specs then we can give some options depending on what you plan to use the car for and your operating rpm.

If you are looking at GATO you should also look at Magnus and BMC.
I have come across a few aftermarket manifolds modified.
A Performer X with shortened runners. A Victor X with and enlarger plenum. Skunk2 Pro, ITR and Victor X CnC'd.

Very soon my custom GSR manifold, IAB still active and over 300cfm. Out flows a Px and Skunk2 Pro.

And I did a ton of research on manifolds over the past year. I am planning on doing a write-up of my findings for our B-series engines. To much incorrect or wrong information out there.

where did u get your info from if you don't mind asking and what did u focus on when designing your mani.

Ooo I can't wait to see that.

Like I said I am in the process of summarizing what I collected and learned over the past year.
My focus was on the design deficiencies in the GSR manifold as they impacted performance. Plenum size (needed more), runner length (to long, slowing down the air speed), and the IAB (cross section at the butterflies and air flow into the runners).
You need to remember that manifold was originally designed in the early 90’s, as was the P30 and ITR manifolds. What kind of computing power did we have back then? Same as our smart phones today, at best. What about the programs that where available to do complex fluid dynamics? They took hours to run and were not very accurate.
More to come as I get my thoughts together, I have pictures that will also be included.

yes technology has gotten better but you cant say that itr mani is worthless or outdated. the itr mani was made so long ago, and even with new off the shelf (not custom) manifolds coming out, the itr mani still does the job, and even a better job when modified.

btw, cant wait to see the results from the gsr mani. if erick was running crazy times with it years back, then there's obviously something to it that can make it work

I didn't say it was worthless or outdated, just old. For an OEM piece it is very good and does a good job. Yes it does it better job when modified so do modified Skunk2 and Px and Vx.

I think the Magnus was tested against a CnC'd Victor X. Even more impressive.
