Default P73 USDM ECU vs. P73 JDM ECU

Will a JDM P73 OBD2a ECU work the same as a USDM P73 OBD2a ECU as far as emmissions testing?

I just moved to Chicago and need to get my car tested. I sold my p73 a while back. I now have a Hondata s300 with my P28. The P28 will not work with OBD2.

Also, just wondering what other differences there are with both ecu's.

Thanks! Rob

pretty much any jdm obd2 ecu is the same as an obd1 usdm ecu. so you will not pass the emissions testing

How can a JDM OBD2 ecu be the same as a USDM OBD1? the plugs are different...

The Plugs and also the wiring pinout should be the same on both the JDM and USDM P73 OBD2 ecu's. I'm just wondering if the parameters are the same for emmissions testing...

I would think so because Japan has very strict emmissions... I should pass with flying colors..

it will pass the sniffer but can not be accessed with a US scan tool different communication protocol in the jdm ecu. other than that they are almost identical fuel/timing maps

so

in other words if you can pass with an obd1 piggybacked with an s300 you can with a jdm p73, if you can't you can't

OK... I've done some more searching and found that you may be right...

JDM ECUs will not pass emissions in USA. they run an OBD1 code in an OBD2 case and there is no way to communicate to the scan tool.

So... I will definitely need a USDM P73 ECU if I want to pass the emmissions test.

the p72 ecu trick works if you swap it in the parking lot and have a cfs sensor and 2nd o2 in the car

...ok, I like the idea that the p72 would work. I have the cfs sensor and 2nd o2 in place. Would I also need to swap out to the stock injectors, remove the resistor box, remove the spring in the wastegate, swap to the stock map sensor, and detach the intake pipe? All of this shouldn't take but a couple of hours. I would then drive down to the emissions testing center and the car should pass. Did I miss anything? Thanks in advance guys!
