can you re-build your door locks, or do you have to order new locks and assemblys, and keys from the dealer, cause i cant even get my passenger side lock to unlock

Assuming you are handy, here are two routes, either of which may be appropriate, depending:

1.
Pay around $30 for a door lock cylinder from an online Honda parts sites. Call and ask if tumblers (a.k.a. "lock plates") are included. E.g. http://www.bkhondaparts.com , under "Body."

2.
Go to a junkyard, take apart the doors from Civics as needed to remove the door locks, and bring several home. Refurbish your current door lock.

Take seriously comments at the sites above about not losing the little springs that help the tumblers work. Working on a surface with a large white sheet on it is highly advisable, so you do not lose the little springs. Note carefully the numbers written on the tumblers and the order in which they come out. If the passenger's side lock is fine, remember you can take it apart carefully and see the numbers on the lock plates and their order in the lock cylinder.

I use brake cleaner to clean the cylinder and lock plates. Dry all parts. Then use lock lube on it. I have read recently that graphite lube is a bad idea.

 

thanks for the helpful direction, i have re-built lock cylinders before in chevy ignition systems, i just didnt even put it together that i could do the same with my door locks
