Default ported v-tec head?

im new to the import/honda scene. my daily car is a 97 dx hatchback 5speed with sohc non v-tec with 120,000 miles. iam currently gathering parts to vtec my engine, i do not want to do a b-series or any engine swap just the head and i want to squeeze out as much power as i can without boosting it, would port and polishing the head be worth it? and who makes a good aftermarket cam for the d-16 engine? thank you in advance

i think your VTEC head swap is the first step to building a good d-series. If u have a bunch of extra money, go ahead and port the head. as far as a cam, google BISIMOTO. good luck.

How much power are you hoping to get? Without boosting a D series, I don't know how much you can squeeze out of it.

im thinkin on a zex 59300 stage 2 street/strip CAM w/zex912-16 valve spring set, header,v-tec controller,ARP head bolts, and a good dyno-tune. i'm not thinkin numbers either but i am going for a potent daily driver.

A mild zex cam w/ a stock d16y8 head will give you enough power to put you on par with a b16 as long as you swap out the stock transmission for a d16z6/d16y8 transmission.

i was told that the only difference in the trans from a y7 and a y8 is the gear ratio is that right? and i found one zex cam and it was for a z6 not a y8 will that go in the y8 and properly function?

Y8 trans has 40mm diff bearings while Y7 has 35mm bearings... this doesn't effect the ratios or function of the transaxle, i know, but it matters when you want to start swapping internals around for a "custom" setup.

also IIRC, 1st, 3rd and Reverse are the same between the two. again for the sake of trivia..

i have a dc header already and a short ram intake since northern nj gets alot of snow and i dont see a cai having that much more of a advantage there, iam gonna run a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 piping. i guess i will be on the hunt for a y8 trans, axles from y7 and y8 are same correct?
