Please look, need advice on eg cx rust
I have a 95 cx
was manufactured in Canada
I live in Arkansas, got this hatch last fall.
it's clean title, never been in any accidents, no bondo, 3 owners,
original paint, not riced out, taken care of- all those are hard enough to find.
with little rust bubbles on rear wells,etc...
Anyhow, I've put a lot into this build, but it's all stuff I could easily take off and put into another hatch.
My problem is, to find a hatch with absolutely zero rust, is near impossible, because half has been re-painted, therefore, probably had some before,
or if it has none, it hasn't been fully inspected in which, a little would probably present itself.
So, with that in mind, I should probably just keep my hatch, and get all the rust fixed, and keep this car forever
The other day I took out all the interior again, sideskirts,
today I took off the rear bumper and inspected.
I took pics of everything. I want opinions on my rust,
usually when the wheel well is rusted, the lower part underneath the
plastic side skirts will be ruined with rust.
Mine are beautiful looking. except on the rear passenger side,
My floor driver side rear had a rust corner (as if liquid puddled up there) and
it just ate right at that one spot and only traveled up a body seal seam as you will see.
other than that there's the little rust right around the wells.
not horribly bad.
I have the rust panel quarters already when I got this hatch they came with it.
Anyone who has fixed, repaired, or seen honda rust on a hatch,
Please give me advice. Should I just get the rust fixed, or
ditch this shell. It's very hard to even find a clean shell, if you can even
find someone selling one.
Any and All info would really help me out.
There's the photobucket link with several detailed pics I took of the rust.
I also wire brushed it all and put rust primer over it just to help keep it
stopped from getting worse until I get it to a body shop.
Just veiw it as a slideshow.

here's two links of threads about fixing the rust, and i've studied these
a ton, I just want ppl to see mine and give me advice from their experience.

Biggest thing I can tell you is bodywork is just plain tedious. Good thing is yours has very litttle rust, my hatch is bad enough that i'm getting another shell (quarters are rotten, way up into the door pillar, rockers are non existant, driver's seat is going through the floor etc.) I will say use lots of good 3m seam sealer on your welds inside the car and then spray the inside with rust check, krown etc. Oh, and beg, borrow or steal a sandblaster, you can wire brush and grind rust all you want, but it'll still be there, sandblaster takes car of it quick and easy, doesn't need to be big either, just a small blaster and some zero sand does an awesome job.
you need new quarter panels and a lot of work on your floor pan. if you try to fix those spots it will most likely come back in the near future. the area's if the pic's are very hard to to get to so getting all the rust out isn't likely plus there is a good chance there is more rust eating through that you can't see.
patching those panels could end up a waste of money for you. this car looks like its been through flood damage

well i'd be getting the panels replaced, I already have the replacement panels for it.
i'd be having all metal cut out and replaced.
the places arent that great to get to, but in the other thread links, they had to do the same thing and it looked like they got rid of all the rust just fine...
have you done this before to a civic?

all i can say is take your time with metal work. I just had to fix a spot on the quarter of my 98, there was a little spot of rust, i accidentally hit it with a shopping cart today and put a hole through it :s i was sour but fixed it up perfectly for now! i cut out all the thin brown crap metal and sand blasted around it and then welded in 2 pieces to fix it. all i can say it completely repair it dont half *** anything.

i have brand new panels that you can buy for swapping the quarters.
you'd just have to see them to see what I'm talking about.
like these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-95...Q5fAccessories
this hatch hasn't had flood damage, If your familiar with 92-95 civics, you'll know that
the rear quarters are known for being horrible about producing rust.
Once they start to rust, it travels down and up, hence, Why I have rust in the seams going up to the taillight and down to the side skirt.
if you look at the other links I put , they both had 10x more rust and way Way worse than I do. and they still fixed theirs.
So, I know it can be fixed.
I'm just looking for ppl who have fixed theirs before to voice in their thoughts about my rust and my hatch.....

My plans are to take to someone who will do this for me,
since I don't have a big garage, or any of the expensive tools, or much experience haha.
take it all apart, tail lights, bumper, etc.....
and have it all fixed, then spray rust-mort into every hard to get place.
that stuff stops rust from spreading.
I saw a guy who had rust, and just wanted it to stop til he fixed it,
it's been 4 yrs and he hasn't had it spread at all, killed it.
so if I get it all fixed, and then spray that crap everywhere, that should keep me rust free....
Once again, Looking to hear from ppl who have done this whole thing

you really think My rust is "that" bad?
what do I do about the area under the rear speakers? where it just looks dirty and maybe a few small rust bubbles, do I use rust converter?
what do I use to get where I cannot reach to replace metal?
I've been doing tons of research, I'm going to get my quarters and all rusted metal replaced, but for all the spots that cant be reached, should I use rust converter?
rust mort , picklex??? any help would be great.
