another dumb question just because I need to make sure befiore i sell my transmission. the 5 speed lx transmission will replace a a speed dx one without using different mounts (using the original dx mounts). also are the first 4 gears of the lx transmission the same as the 4 of the dx 4 speed, but with a 5 gear added for overdrive for gas mileage? or are the 4 speeds faster?
I believe only time gearing is changed in 4th gens was for the SI. And the mounts should be the same. Just make sure the flywheel is the same. I believe there was a difference on them size wise

here's one thing. there is a site that gives out all the gear ratios don't remember it. and you should look it up. the info is out there. don't be lazy.

by slower you mean longer?
lx,dx, si, and ex 5speeds have the same gear ratio. the si/ex have a shorter final drive.
im not completely sure if the hf has the same gearing (non cali models) but for sure there final drive is even longer then a lx, and dx.
for the 4speed, i don't remember correctly, but i think it has the same final drive as the dx, and lx. of course the gearing is different.
ok i need to clear you up here. Now beware, i am not comparing the actual gear ratios vs final gear size. I am simply clearing up what you as a driver will feel or experience by changing stock trannys
the 4 speed is not a dx, its an std model
dx trannys have 5 forward gears
hf has the tallest "longest" gears making it the slowest
dx/lx has shorter gearing but still gets good mileage with faster acceleration
ex/si has the "shortest" gears which gives you the fastest acceleration
if you want the best acceleration buy an si or ex trans
if you want the best gas mileage then buy an hf trans
still somewhere in between? then buy a dx or lx...prob wont feel much difference if any between the 2
if you really want gas mileage and youre on a budget, keep the 4 speed but accept the fact that your acceleration will suck.
I live 50 miles from you and own a 4 speed civic and a dx 5 speed crx. the civic sucks to drive up and down the hills in the area, the dx tranny is much better and gets the same gas mileage
that tranny is not controlled by your ecu. run the correct ecu for your engine

EX/Si don't have a shorter gearing, it's the same as a DX/LX. The FINAL drive is different.

I know what you mean tho. and the transmission is in a 91 dx its a 4 speed so how isnt the dx a four speed. I believe on the sedans were dx 5 speeds
Unless yours was a dx and someone swapped the tranny, you are mistaken
