Ok, I bought some 3m Polishing compound when I used it on my Integra. The car was black and the 3m said to use it on dark vehicles. The car came out looking very good. Now I didn't do a full detail but i used a hand orbital buffer on slow speeds to do it. took me awhile but the paint came out a lot better then it was before.
I have typical blue Subaru WRX that I want to polish...can i use the same polish or should i get something different for it...what the difference for dark color cars and not? i mean if i'm not using high speed buffers and not really cutting into the paint would it do any harm?

No, you can use with no problems. On darker colors the work usually is more difficult that's why normally the makers have a range for them.
You can try:
If is very scratch start with,
3M 9374 with a cut pad
Then 3M 9375 normal pad
And finish with 1z metallic polish with a finishing pad. After this you should be very happy with the results, you can apply some poor boys natty's wax to give the last touch
Of course there some better products, but this bunch for the price for me is unbeatable.
