Balancing Slicks on VPD's
Dumb question but I wanted to Know how many of you add the sticky weights to balance your slicks? i know you cant use the hammer on weights with lensos..
What about tire spin on the wheel?
wouldnt the balance be effected after a couple of launches?
balancing at what Psi?
Im about to pass on it today when i mount some new rubber,
any insight?

one of my slicks moved last year and made the wheel seem bent and pull hard to the left at 130mph, then wiggle when I got on the brakes at the end. Balance the slicks. We balanced mine with the air it took to seat the bead. Used sticky weights and covered them with tape so heat didnt make them come off. I also drilled the wheels and put wheel screws in. Never had a balance problem after that

Def Balance them....i had my 24.5's spin balanaced on my lensos. I never ran them without weights so i dunno but i def think there would be a difference not balanced vs balanced. I had about 12 psi of air in the tire when it was balanced. As far as tire spinning on rim. I have alil but i dont think its enough to make a difference. Mark your rim and tire, iff it moves alot, rim screws are in order.
Like I said before, if I balance T/F slicks why not yours.
Best of LUCK!!!

I have always balanced my slicks and everyone I have built cars for... Its funny the look you get from tire shops that have never done that before.. I figured if my dad balanced his T/F slicks back in the 70's , I should do them too...
Thanks for all the input john and HT members, i will definetly balance them today, im gonna try 10psi on the balance,
cause when you pull down the track my 8 psi shouls be 10-12 so ill stay in that range..
thanks again guys!

i used stick on weights... it took 50psi to seat the beads on lensos. lensos are a pretty tight wheel. i also used glue on the bead to help with tire spin.. they did spin on the wheel a couple inches the first time using them but after that they never did at all.
glue on the bead? seriously? what kind of glue did you use?
Through my experience with wheels, try painting the bead seats of the wheel with automotive primer and dry mounting the tires. It will take a little coaxing and a little more psi to seat the beads by dry mounting but it will be worth it. If that doesn't work... you may need to upgrade to some bead lock wheels.
