Default problem with del sol cooling system

I'm having a problem with my Del sol that has a jdm gsr in it. it doesn't show it warm up on the gauge. The needle goes up but not to where its supposed to be. I've replaced the thermostat like 4 times, 3 from advance and 1 from Acura. I've also replaced the sensors that have to deal with the cooling system. It hits vtec and all and i have heat. I'm thinking that it might be the cluster but i figured i would ask you guys on here first before i bought a new one. Any help would be appreciated.

If you unplug the temp sender unit under the distributor and ground the plug to the engine, does the needle in the cluster temp gauge rise to the HOT reading? (if so, unground the wire immediately to avoid damaging the temp gauge)

Replace what the connector was plugged into. Yes, the sending unit screws into the block under the distributor.
