Please Help: PS whining when turning in place
Hi,
I was hoping I can get some help to resolve my PS issue on my 2000 Accord V6.
My PS was working completely fine up until I changed out the serpentine belt and the tensioner (I didn’t touch the PS belt). Now the PS will whine when I turn the car left and right but it works completely fine.
I heard of the TSB where you have to change out the o-ring on the inlet hose. I’m not sure if that’s the same problem I have because I noticed many people doing the TSB have a slight whine when starting the car up and it goes away when the car is warmed up.
I noticed the PS fluid is whirring more than normal on my car. The only thing I can think of that I might have done to possibly cause it was in order to change out the belt and tensioner I had to move the reservoir out the way and fiddle w/ the hoses. I’m guessing this may have caused it.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Whining is normally caused by the belt being too loose and slipping when pressure put on it. There is a nut/bolt that you turn to tighten up the tension. That should fix it.

Something similar happened to me when the bearing in the power steering pump itself was going bad..
Had to change it eventually, but hopefully you wont have to do that..

Odds are that you just need to replace the suction line - part number 53731-S87-A00. Cost is a little over $8 from Honda.
While you're at it, might as well update the pump inlet O-ring too - part number 91345-RDA-A01, less than $1.
