Default Some one tell me if this is possible

Ok so im talkin to this guy today about his ford lightning sorry i didnt know where else to post this. He proceeds to tell me that he is getting a new super chager for it he has the car completly re-built and he tells me that he is going to be running 24 psi on a whipple super charger. I told him that i dont think thats possible. He said that it is because the chager he is getting puts out 18psi and he got a 6lb pully so that makes 24 psi and i dont think thats even possible. So can someone who is not a moron like myself tell me if you can or cant do that and why so i can tell this guy whats up or feel stupid.

Wouldn't a 6lb pully produce 6 psi of boost?

yeah thats what i thought but he said that he has the 6psi pulley and the charger makes 18psi

But on a jackson racing super charger when you add a 10 psi pulley arent you making 10psi

if he doesn't have an aftercooler he isn't even going to run 18psi (for more than two seconds) heh

yeah but the only superchargers ie. blowers ive heard of running that kind of boost are the top fuel drag cars running 5 sec 1/4's and they have to tear down the motor in those things all the time.

But it dosent look like anyone has a real answer for me cause i dont know ***** about superchargers.

THe whipple is capable of high boost pressures, but anything above 20psi and its exit temps get really hot, almost negates the purpose. Would have to be intercooled to even approach 20psi efficiently. And the supercharger only makes the boost that the pulley/crank speed combination dictates. A positive displacement blower like the Whipple displaces a given amount of air per revolution, therefore the faster it turns, more specifically, the faster it turns in relation to the crank, the higher the boost pressure. But it still has a volumetric and adiabatic efficiency range that peaks and falls. Tell him to remember that more boost is not necissarily more hp, it may just mean more heat!

wow thanks for the reply there actually what i was looking for so basically what you are saying is that it is more than likely not possible o yeah and he said with that set up he was gonna make like 550hp to the wheels which seems like a low number to me
