Default need wisdom, building a turbo D

ok so i got a d16y8 from a buddie and i want to build it a turbo d and would like to see 500+ hp, obviously im gunna vtec conversion it with a y8 head and then get the block sleeved from some random mechanic shops hookup i guess but just wondering on more technical parts i should get for the lower end, rods n pistons? what make a good setup? and what cams and valve springs retainers i should get? im gunna get a boost flowramhorn and garret Garrett GT3071R 90Trim turbo, and then just run straight 3" header back exaust, also what injectors and im think walbro or incineration 700 1000cc?

all advice welcome or if u have a similer setup all

You should look at bisimoto's turbo d series build you want to build a motor like that.

I was going to fully build a single cam but decided to go with a dual cam instead

My recommendations is like 2point1 said get the oil pump ported and shimmed, arias 9:1 pistons with bisi rods. Sleeve it and micropolish the crank and you should be good. Maybe get the headed ported as well and run a turbo cam. Supertech valvetrain is agood setup as well. Do a lot of research and get it write the first time so you don't have to go back and do it later.

i jus finished a turbo d similair to what you seem to want we kept it simple and fairly budget. the car runs great daily driven even beat a 600rr (badly) and kept up with a 08 r1 (i have owned a bike and these guys could ride). our setup was..

ycp vitara pistons
d16 scat rods(low comp lowes boost on 93 oct great on the streets )
oem bearings
d16 y8 crank(z6 crank is much better but dont rev the hell outa it and you should do fine)
59300 zex cam
bisi springs/retainers
stock valves
stock y8 intake manifold
gt3076
custom mini ram made by myself
havent hit the dyno yet so ther is more power in it i know but 25psi on 100 octane fuel

the d16y8 crank does have short comings that we stumbled upon first hand pushing the limits of it on previous engines so we kept it conservative and only rev this motor to 8400rpm on stock clearances and 10/30 oil. we have a much more radical head (ported/bigger cam/intake manifold and such) cant wait to build another d series are fun n much cheaper to a point!! hope this helps

port your oil pump, chamfer your crank and open up your bearings and the motor will last,

i havent tried that but i may since we have a extra set of rods, vitara's,and y8 crank. when we starved the motor the outer rods (1&4) wer badly starved of oil. the oil clearences were stock with 20/50 weight oil redline at 9400 doesnt work well.

riceburner700. are you talking about porting a y8 oil pump? can i get a
machineshop to chamfer the crank?

Lots of money...

Despite what many people on this site will tell you, your gonna wanna piece together a kit to make that power. Aside from building the motor, i would sleeve the block if you want it to last. 500hp is a lot to ask from that motor. Take every precaution to make it somewhat reliable. Forged pistons are a must, none of this vitara crap. If you are looking for a cheaper route, drop your HP goals to around 300 and see what you come up with.

Turbo wise, id go with something along the lines of a precision sc6262, or slightly smaller. Your gonna have some serious lag if you wanna reach that power level, so dont expect much for low end power.

Hondata s300 for engine management is my preferred choice.

750cc injectors minimum.

a walbro 255 pump should handle that power.

Id also look into upgrading your ingnition system. Ive had nothing but problems puting big HP to OEM D16 distributors.

Its gonna most likely cost you in upwards of $10,000 to put a single cam together to make that power somewhat reliably. What with building the motor, turbo kit, fuel/ignition upgrades, and tuning. Its not a cheap process...
