turbo d15b7/d16y8 mini me @ 12psi
its taken a while to get it all together after blowing my old d15, but its finally in *whew*
now i just gotta hook everything up and she's good to go.
i need to take it to dyno her, if everything goes right and she's tuned like i want her to be running 11:1 or so compression on 12psi i should be making roughly 225-250whp.
oh yeah did i mention its daily driven :D only on 9psi though
the old setup was good for 9.5@70mph in the 1/8 mile on 9psi, i'm hoping to break into 8's with the new setup on street tires and pump gas. my goal is an 8.5
tuned via uberdata with a plx m300 wideband o2 controller.
i'm also building a y8 now with eagle h-beams and je pistons. what would be a better choice for a built engine i want to run around 300-350ish hp? with streetability in mind and i want it to be a reasonably quick spooler. i'm thinking i'd like to stay with a dsm turbo since i wouldn't have to do any pipe-rerouting. 16g or 18g?
oh yeah this is what happens when you peg the boost gauge on a stock internal d15b7, it hit 17psi before the rod bent...

How long do you expect this engine to last?..

a long time with proper tuning. im not using a damn vafc and guessing what values will make it run good, this is on a wideband tuned standalone fuel and ignition map to make my air/fuel ratios absolutely perfect. tuning is the biggest factor of how well and for how long a car will run.

true, but 11:1 compression and 225-250whp on d15b7 'toothpicks' (rods) wont last long.

i spiked to 17psi before the old engine blew, that would be (assuming 10hp per psi of boost) 285hp it took to bend the rods like that. and the fact that they didn't break under this kind of pressure, only bent from the heat goes to show you how suprisingly strong they are for being that small.

NICE! I've been wanting to boost my b7/z6 setup for awhile now, but everybody I talk to is like "nah, keep the d16 block becuse more displacement, more airflow=more boost." Would the 1.5 and 1.6 make THAT much of a diff' becuase I thought the wonderfully-flowing head would compensate for the loss of 'strokage'.
Thanks,
J

Nice setup man. Just be careful with ignition timing. Make sure you take it to the dyno and fine tune the ignition.

with that compr you should make that power, maybe, i dunno, i have a y8, and a pretty small turbo, .48/60 t3/t4 and at 15 psi i made 212whp and 190 trq... tunned with neptune, im building a block and going to a gt3076r with a comp cam and performer x mani, my tunner said that at like 20psi i should make like 350 whp... good luck with the build "sohc power rules", lol. later

Please step away from the dead thread, and walk away casually. Like the time you walked into that tree, pretend nobody saw you & it never happened...
