I have been looking for a new car since I gave my last honda to my brother (yes I am a nice brother). I found this honda which I am going to see this Saturday since he works alot during the week.

He said that the Coupe is an American coupe that was brought here, here as in Montreal, Quebec. However the motor was removed, he said something about it being blown, then he put in a B18A, that is all he said about the motor. Would the motor be the B18A1 the 140 hp one?

It is very clean, not riced out, rustproofed every year and he said he does not abuse the engine. I do not have a picture because I found it on Kijiji and I did not save the link to the page. So Si coupe with a B18A, 60 000km.

2000$ is this a good deal? I am bringing it in to my mechanic who I trust very much and he is going to do a bumper to bumper inspection to make sure that everything is fine. He will check the motor mounts and underneath the bumpers in case there was an accident.

Also. If it turns out to be clean and not a hack job of a motor swap, what head could I put on the engine. I would like some more HP, is the B18A a decent motor?

Well, to get a little technical, if it's an American-market vehicle, then it's not a Canadian Si. It's an EX (or DX, which we also had in Canada).

$2000 does seem reasonable. Especially if there's little rust. Being that this is Eastern Canada, that is a small miracle.

 

That is very true, always rust on the quarter panels.. Well he said that it is an SI that came from America. So could it be that it had the B16 but it blew so he put in the B18A.

If it is an American SI, then it should still have everything else, like sunroof, electric everything pretty much including the bigger front brakes right? What else would tell me that it is in fact an American SI?

So Saturday when I go see him, if the signs show that it is not a 95 American SI then he is lieing?

Is the B18A a good motor?

the US didn't get an Si coupe at all for '92 - '95. The equivelent US model to our Si coupe at that time was called an EX is the US and had power windows and locks in addition to the stuff we had here, it will also lack daytime running lights.

 

the B18A came out of a DA teg. It won't be legal cause you have an older motor in a newer chassis

 

So he lied to me basically? I had a vague idea that there was no 95 SI for Americans. Just wanted clarification on it.

So would you buy the car with the B18A? Or does the situation seem to sketchy and that I should not bother.

Just seems that I can't find too many clean coupes in Montreal. I do not want a sedan, maybe I will end up getting a hatch..

 

OP is in Canada, doesn't matter over here. Only 2 provinces have emissions testing and its not very strict i'm told.

The motor is from an older Integra. Since he said the car is American, it's most likely a 1995 Civic EX coupe as he said it was a Canadian Si (American EX = Canadian SI).

I would check out the car and meet the guy in person, that's the only way if you'll find out it's a good deal or not.

 

All I can tell you is take a look at the car and see what you think. '90 - '91 B18As are only 130hp, '92 - '93s are 140HP and came OBD1 from the factory. If its a '92 - '93 B18A swap correctly done using a hydro tranny then it wouldn't scare me. If its a major hack job then it might. Rust free means a lot though. I'm in New Brunswick and currently in the process of buying a '92 - '95 hatch shell, it will be rust free imported from the US and its going to cost in the $1500 - $2000 range (and thats without doors, hood, fenders) so you can look at it that way too if you don't mind building the car from a shell.

Okay I will have the mechanic inspect it nonetheless, how would I be able to know if it is in fact a 92-93 swap? What slight modification could I do to it in order to increase the HP? Maybe swap the Head? I/H/E?

This is my DD to school and back so I wanted something reliable and fuel effecient maybe in a few months, when I get all the Turbo pieces together I will run boost at low psi 6-7. But for now 140hp is fine for me, with the I/H/E it should be a little more, and if i swap the head with a mild tune and headwork.

Just thinking of the possibilities.
