so i have a 89 crx with a 95 gsr swap..all obd1 ..so this problem just started to happen i though it was the main relay but its not.. after i drive the car for about 15 minutes and i shut it off usually it wont start back up..ive notice that the battery light on the dash wont light up like it should..so it would crank but wont start..then ill let it sit for about 30 minutes and it would start..so weird..any suggestions? thanks...

 

Happened to me. Ignitor.

 

oh and my coolant temp switch is mess up so i jumped the plug with a wire so the fan stays on..the told me the ecu probably thinks the engine is over heating so it wont let it turn on....

 

so i need to swap the ignitor and ill be good? but i tho when the ignitor gets hot the car will just shut off..mines stays on till i turn it off...

 

It does seem like something in the dizzy. I would try a cap and rotor before an ignitor though.

The ECU thinking the engine is overheating just by jumpering the fan switch makes no sense to me. The radiator fan switch isn't connected to the ECU. It is just a thermo-switch that closes when it reaches a certain temp.

 

so i should take that off the list...okay so cap and rotor.. ill be checking that then..the if not i guess the ignitor and hopefully thats it.. .

 

and my rpm's jump around when i go into vtec...so i think it is the igniter

 

If your tach jumps around then it's something with the dizzy. Could be igniter and/or coil. But forewarning, if you replace one you should replace both. Because the one you didn't replace may be out the door later on.

 

buy a used cheap dizzy from craigslist in working condition for cheap...!!!

 

alrite..so moslikely is the dizzy going bad..well ill be in the hunt for one..thanks everyone..hopefully this solves this annoying problem

 

your igniter is in the dizzy and is heat sensitive. it's probably the igniter. $24.95 on ebay new..

 

I just installed a new dizzy...since yesterday it kept starting and shutting off...so its all fixed now..... It was the dizzy after all..now i have an extra main relay for just incase...lol

 

my b16 dx hatch did this..i took the main relay and resoldered the connections inside. no prob since

 

yep it was the icm (ignitor)

 

soak it in bleach... or microwave it for a minute and a half on defrost.

 

my old '91 SI did the same thing when warmed up, turned out to be the FPR.
