Steering is off. Suspension?
I bought a used 93 Civic Hatch from a private owner. I test drove it on regular road and it was great. Suspension is pretty smooth and is great. One thing I didnt do, which I should of is testing it out at a higher speed like on the freeway. I took the mr2 on the freeway after I purchase it and realized that the steering or suspension is off. And its getting serious. When driving on the freeway at higher speeds, it feels as though the alignment is off or the suspension is bad. whats wrong with the steering? especially on the freeway? it feels like the car is losing out of control when going in a straight line at higher speeds. It feels as though the steering is not straight and wanting to drive to the left or right. it is not stable at all, it feels like the alignment is totally off and keep driving to the any direction. I did noticed though, once the car comes to a complete stop and I start driving it makes this loud noise as though the driver rear suspension is loose. I thought it might be the top mount of the struts but it wasnt. Everything seems to be tight. So i'm just wondering if worn or torn bushing may cause this to happen? It doesnt do it all the time, sometimes when I let go of the steering wheel at higher speeds. It gradually moves to the right because alignment is off a bit. Car is in stock height and is not lowered.
I would check all the bushings in the upper and lower control arms for play and or damage. Test all the tire rods inner and outer and the upper/lower balljoints for play. This car is over 16years old and more than likely needs a full suspention overhall. If you have basic hand tools you can cange all the tierods/balljoints yourself for cheep. Bushings you will need a press to do so that is a good job to farm out. If you are not able to do the work yourself take it to a shop and have the work done.
take it to an alignment shop. have it aligned and a tech inspect the suspension.
youre asking the right questions, but we cant answer them for you since we cant see your car or know the condition of it.
but the alignment is clearly off so start there.
