4.4 final in ls trans
okay have broken s4c tranny layin around and want to put the final in my ls trans question is do i need to use the b16 counter shaft or can i run the ls? They both are 15tooth but wondering of tooth pitch as if they are compatible?
edit: so und out it is a gsr tranny not b16 so the ls final doesnt fit the gsr diff can i use the ls diff in the gsr case? this is anoying.

eventhough they have the same amount of teeths, the LS fd is slightly smaller in diameter at the base of countershaft, so yes you have to use 4.4 countershaft.
with having both trannies is there anysetup with a mixture of the two gear sets for a 400hp estimated car? will be tracked alot but also daily so i know the ls 5th is a must but what using the b16 3-4 in combination
Buy a 3.07 1st, use the LS 1.9 2nd B16 3rd & 4th and the LS 5th.
The 1st two gears for traction, the 3rd and 4th for close mid speed acceleration and the 5th for your highway cruising.

yes it will work, just use the 4.4 countershaft and ring gear.
also, you can't just pick what 1st and 2nd gears you want, as the 1-2 gears are part of the main shaft. you either run the LS/GSR 1-2 as they are the same, or you run the B16 1-2 gears.
if you want to build one of these transmissions on purpose, your best bet is to start off with a GSR transmission and just get an LS 3-4 setup. Might as well put in an LS 5th while you're at it for low highway rpms too.

Using LS 3/4 is horrible advice.
[QUOTE=Aquafina;44093501]GSR 1/2 is the same ratio as LS 1/2, but they are not the same.
Have you found one set to be stronger or are you saying that they can't be mixed because of shaft size differences

ok so new problem the mainshaft bearing (bell housing side) is siezed to the shaft I mean the first gear on the shaft is muli colored from the heat. Any one got any tricks to gettin it off? I broke my bearing puller tryin to take it off. Other option if it will work is i have the mainshaft out of the ls tranny i could use if everything will work smoothly. please help I am ignorant for tryin this for my first fix but if it can be save I would be very greatful.
If it is discolored, don't reuse it.
Use a different mainshaft with matching (i.e. came from the same exact trans) countershaft 1/2 gears. You will need to shim the mainshaft.

Are you trying to rebuild your tranny just by "remembering" how you took it apart? I certainly hope not.
Either get yourself a service manual, or pay a professional to do the job, otherwise, you're just going to end up with problems down the line.
