Default Cops and your RHD Conversion?CT Locals welcome

So after read that Grey Market Vehicle post, I see the 25 year rule if your best bet for getting a JDM car into the states LEGALLY.
My question is for people who have RHD conversion(preferably CT locals) on a USDM car, have you gotten any fines/hassle by cops about your car? Have you been pulled over just because your on the right ?what was the look on the face at the person at the drive thu window? How long did it take you to adjust to driving on the right? I understand all work needed to convert any honda to RHD.
Thanks, Brian!

And these questions are exactly why RHD cars in the US are rather silly.

You have like 1 person for every 10 claiming how cool RHD is. Some have RHD cars, some do not. What's even funnier is that folks spend thousands to do the conversion and end up with a car they cannot sell.

FWIW, forget about passing anyone on a 2-lane road with RHD. Just isn't going to happen safely.

jxh_28-you try googling how cops act in ct about RHD converted cars. GL!

RHD is starting to get trendy I've noticed that to.

I'm asking for personal experience that people have had after the conversion with cops if any
I do agree RHD isn't the safest.

LAWS. There is nothing difficult about this...

I have been pulled over a few times, some cops are just interested, and others like to hassle and ask questions. Just keep registration, tag receipts, and insurance on you and you shouldn't have any problems.

the few that I know of down here in FL haven't had any problem with police. most of the time cops just make fun of them. my boy got pulled over for speeding and when the cop walked up to the passenger side (us driver side) he was startled and said well **** you shoulda seen the speed limit sign first. lol

Rhd's are like **** on a bull, useless, yet interesting to those that have not seen **** on a bull yet..
I'm not hating, or bashing, I've owned and driven 4 Rhd cars in Cali, and never had a problem, one time my girlfriend got a rolling stop ticket while being the passanger, cop pulls me over, askew my girlfriend for lisence, registration and proof of insurance, she asked the cop if he wanted to see (her) DL? Typical cop in a bad mood said yes without noticing why she asked him that, since my girl had the glove box in front of her she went ahead and handed over what the officer requested, he walks to his patrol car, comes back with a ticket already filled out, gives it to my girl and tells her to sign it.
LOL...
She asked him why she was getting a ticket? Officer says because she failed to stop at a stop sign, (I'm giggle'ing this whole time), she told him that first of all, she did not see a stop sign anywhere, infact, she wasn't paying attention to any of that, second, she wasn't even driving!! Cop looks inside the car and sees me on the other side holding the wheel, he says "you gotta be shitting me, ****!". He gets our stuff and throws it in the car, turns around, walks to his car and leaves..

In california its really not safe to have one unless its a real rhd from japan. And that has to be reg under the jdm vin as a kit car or dealer car. And thats is hard as hell to do. I got lucky and bought a rhd jdm itr reg under the jdm vin that was not done shadey. And its under a kit car. And with dealer plates.

I have a friends in the chp and know a couple of officers from trap. And they state. This is from there mouth. If you swap the firewall out of the car its considered vin tampering. And thats is illegal. They can take the car and hold it for 30days, till they prove its not stolen. Crush the car because its not street worthy. Right you a ticket for vin tampering 1k and up fine and or do all three. And you have to pay storage fees and crushing fee's

My buddy just got his rhd supra taking last week. And its from japan. The chp stated this car could have never been registered in california under that vin. They kept the car for 3 days and gave it back with no plates. They also blacked balled the jdm vin. Told him it can never be driven or registered in california. If they catch it back on the street with california plates they will crush it. He asked what about out of state plates. They told him thats fine as long as your driver license matches your out of state and you can not have a california license. If the car gets 2 tickets in a month it will be impounded. And they told him a bunch of other stuff about out of state driving and stuff.

Not worth it in my book. You can go to your local chp and get the same information. Vin tampering is also a 6 month jail term too. And a felony. A jdm vin can not be legaly registered unless its a special construction car. And like I said. Its hard to do. Also federal law trumps state law. And the feds say No!

hang on. if you wreck a car and weld in a new firewall, restore the correct vin and register the car that's legal but a jdm firewall is not?

i can understand a law against rhd cars for a variety of reasons but using the correct usdm vin for that car on a jdm firewall i can't see how you could construct a vin tampering charge since it's the correct vin for that car.

dude, in California, just looking at a vin number for too long is illegal.
Cutting, welding, or even Scratching to close to the Vin, forget about it..

drive it and answer your own question

not to be a dick o anything but a whole lot of these types of questions pop up when people have not owned a rhd car, drove one,or has seen one in person
with this type of question you get everyones opinion
different opinions cant get a solid answer every state and county has there own laws
every cop is gonna pull you over for whatever thing
just my .02 on this

actually, here we are

http://htarchive.org/showthread.php?t=2670799

in short, bring the firewall to the police with your original or have a cop come by and issue papers, stamp it or verify it's not fraud

Most insurance companies that would total a car that had that much damage and the title would be unrepairable

Owned one before that was converted. And I been co owners on a couple. Pulled over one to many times and twice in one day. Sometimes its a headache. Plus really its dangerous. Serious. Wait till you have to make a left hand turn you have to yeild on and you can not see cars coming because your on the wrong side... Oppss right side. Now think about being t-boned The reason I just got my new one was a deal I could not turn down. I doubt if I dd it.
