klean strip prep-all wax and grease remover

^yep. We use a wax and grease remover that we call "Fast". It's just a fast evaporating wax and grease remover from our paint supplier. As long as you use something like that with clean lint free prep towels you'll get a good result.

I would go to a paint shop and ask them what they reccomend. We use stuff we call spray 159 from Sherwin Williams at our shop, but for home I just bought some cheap-o wax and grease remover from Canadian Tire, and it leaves a residue. Total pain in the ***.

My coworker says that he uses brake cleaner?

Not that I'm going to use that. Just wondered about that.

I use this, works perfect everytime, its not a quick evaporating one though, if you lay it on really wet it takes 10 minutes to be perfectly residue free, which is fine, 10 bucks and a very little goes a long way

^^ Don't use either of those. Both leave a residue. Buy something for automotive painting.. just walk into a paint supply store and ask what they have for pre-cleaner/wax and grease remover. Tell them it's for paint prep. When you start mixing and matching products and use them for things they're not designed for you just create problems for yourself. If you're painting a car, use auto paint prep materials... the same goes for scuff pads, sandpaper, tools, etc.
